After owning numerous amps  including Bogner Uber, XTC, Shiva, Engl PB, VHT UL, Roccaforte HG, Aiken Sabre, Soldano SLO and 4 Dual Rectos I'm now back to owning a recto again; they just seem to fit me better for my needs.

One thing thats been a constant battle for me though, is finding the right cab and speaker for it. I had a standard recto 412 in the past and became tired of the lack of clarity and woofy tone with V30s. I remember really liking the tone of it with my 3/4 112 C90 loaded cab the best. I figured my best bet this time would be a recto 412 loaded with C90s. Well I did just that and its ok but I think these speakers like to be in a open back encloser instead of a sealed.

I recently played my amp through a friends Orange 412 cab loaded with V30s and loved it. I'm kinda temped to go back to V30s in my recto cab now

Hey I was considering getting a the G-Flex 2x12, I think I saw you mention it before. i hear that their pretty awesome, any opinions on it?

I've played a G-Flex cab before (not with the recto) and wasn't crazy about it. I have a couple of Bogner cabs that sound really good with the recto but those have Greenbacks and GH30s and its a traditional sized cab also. By the way I actually have CL80s in my recto cab currently which are the same thing as C90s.

They are awesome with Recto's! How loud did you get with it? I guess it doesn't matter if you haven't really tried one out. I have both the G-Flex 4X12 and 2X12, For modern sounds, I wouldn't recommend anything else with the DR.

really? i'm sure you've played a recto (either 2x12, 4x12, or both) right? how would you compare them..?

I think what I didn't like about it was the enormous amounts of low end......I mean it has more than a recto cab and thats already to much IMO.

Anyone use C90/CL80s with there recto?

Yeah I had CL80's in a Recto cab. Way too muddy for my tastes, albiet less muddy than a recto cab with v30's but still muddy. That's why I got the GB's!

I played an Uberschall through a 2x12 g-flex...

Maybe not a completely fair trial, but I HATED it.....mudd and bass...that's all I heard....no punch, cut, or crunch, just bass.....I pushed the amp, and EQed like no other, but nothing...

Then again, that might not be a good combo...uber bass heavy amp + uber bass heavy cab can not be good.

How loud did you get it? GB's shine at stage volume!

I have a couple of Bogner 412 cabs that I tried the recto with. One has Greenbacks and the other has GH30s. Surprisingly the Bogner Greenbacks cab sounded super good!

That's the second half of my formula... I have a full stack of Marshall 4X12's from 1968 Basketweaves. They have all the original 25W greenbacks in them. The DR's don't sound as full through them as the GB's but the sound is tight, compressed and honky when you put some power to the speakers. The mids just come out and slap you. The break up is awesome with a pushed strat, very Hendrix. I don't run them mixed, they are definitely a stand alone tone.

mesa traditional cab will be tighter and less woofy, comes with V30's. Also try other cabs as mesa have there V30's voiced slighty different

You probably like it because you are able to break up the speakers much easier. Maybe you should check out some eminence speakers. I bought a gov' (which is a nod to the V30) and like it paired with a Celestion g12k 85.

I don't feel a guitar cab needs to be ported. If you need more bass buy a bass guitar!

I too am a fan of Greenbacks with my Mesa. I run a checkerboard faced Marshall 4x12 with greenbacks with an EVM-12L loaded Thiele cabinet.

It is all over the place, the traditional has a more focused mid range and tighter bottem end, however not as huge of a bottem end. As to different speakers, try putting mesa V30's up against real V30's and you will see the difference. Mesa had celestion make them with larger bottem end, less mid's.

One of my favorite cabs was a mesa traditional, next to my standard it just cut through alot better. Now I have a bogner uber cab which is also a great cab, nice and tight and focused.
