Welcome to the forum.
Set the Marshall cab to 16 ohms mono & plug it into a 8 ohm jack on the head.

Plug the 8 ohm Recto cab into a 4 ohm jack on the head.

This is shown in detail on the Triple's owners manual. If you don't have one I highly suggest you download a copy from MesaBoogie.com

Dom, I have the same Marshall cab and usually go 16 ohm jack out on the head to the cab. I have seen in the manual that the 8 ohm out is a 'safe mismatch'. Is there a reason you recommend the 8 ohm (and 4 ohm jack for the 8 ohm recto cab)? I have not tried it to be honest to see if there is a tonal difference but will give it a go when I get home.

If you are running only the Marshall cab then yes, 16 ohm to 16 ohm for a match.

When running a 16 ohm & 8 ohm cab together there is no perfect match so the idea is to balance the mis-match, which is how it was described to me by Mesa when I asked this question some years ago.

The other option is to run the 16 ohm cab and the 8 ohm cab in parallel (daisy-chained) for a total load of 5.33 ohms, and plug that into the 4 ohm jack on the head. It's not perfect, but close enough. I've never run that way, and I've been told that the cabs will not get equal power (one cab may be louder than the other) in parallel. I've always done 16 ohm cab to 8 ohm tap/8 ohm cab to 4 ohm tap with zero issues.

If one had 2 8 ohm cabs then would one plug each of them into a 4 ohm jack?
That is correct, and shown in the manual.

The two 4 ohm speaker jacks are wired in parallel to the 4 ohm tap on the Output Transformer.

Two 8 ohm speaker loads in parallel is 4 ohms total load.

Thanks Dom, I think he's going to look for another recto 412 cab and do the the "x" pattern with some g12t-75. sorry for the delayed response we've been getting ready for a show in New London Ct.
