Bypassing the loop on a Roadster

The roadster sounds so much better with the loop bypassed but I miss out on the solo switching which is handy on stage,
Has anyone else got around this prob (not that it is a big prob)
I have my effects out front so don't need the loop anyway.

You could try a pedal out front for a boost or even setting your main sound level with the guitar's volume rolled back a bit and then 'dime' it for the boost, but it will be more of a gain boost with a volume increase instead of just a louder amp.

I knew I was going to use the loop so I have not let myself get used to the tone with it bypassed, (you don't miss what you don't know you have) other than just to make sure it (hard bypass) works.

Try spending some time with the amp when the loop is in and see if you can get it to sound the way you like. In a live situation you will most likely not even notice the difference.

In the studio however it's bypass all the way!

You could also experiment with V5 (FX loop tube) and see if that helps.

Thanks Dom. I gigged tonight just got back, played all night with the amp bypassed, didn't bother with the boost but will check out the V5.
The Amp in Bypass really sounded better, near the end I really had the Amp bouncing and it sounded fantastic.
As I said , I don't think it is a big deal and will probably switch the loop in next gig.

PS My tubes are in the mail. :wink:

I only have delay and an EQ in the loop and like the solo option, so I keep the loop active.

IMO, bypassing the loop to make it sound better is like taking the ac and power steering belts off your car to make it run faster. In both cases the difference can be felt/heard, but the benefits of keeping them on (or keeping the loop active) make it worth the lost power (or tone). Like Dom, I keep the loop active so I 'don't know what I'm missing'.

I'm in no hurry to mess around with the preamp tubes, just ordered some, =C= 6L6's, but if anyone has done this and found the "right "tube then I'd have a crack at it, which begs the question why haven't Mesa?
MMjp6 , how great is the advantage of an EQ in the loop? The EQ on the roadster is pretty good.

I've got an eq and delay in the loop also, the eq is great for adding another voice to the already great sounds of ch3 & 4 (I've got a scooped setting on the eq, give me a metallica...and Justice sound) and also helps my clean sound if I'm not using one of my strats. If I didn't need the delay I'd probably ditch the eq, but since I use the loop anyway I'll keep it on the board for now.

I just tried it for the first time. **** I'm lucky that I don't rely on many FX, especially in the FX loop as I think it's going to stay bypassed for good now. It's just pure goodness.

I had a similar problem with my Road King and it wasn't the V5, but another tube that got broken in shipping. Make sure to check all your tubes.
