Ive been looking for a particular amp for awhile, I finally found one in my area for a decent price. The owner said he blew a resistor but had taken the amp to a tech had gotten it fixed & used it for 2 band practices since with no trouble.

Im just wondering if I can expect this to be a recurring issue? I dont really want to inherit a money pit, I just have no experience with amps that have had trouble so I dont know how much worrying I should be doing.

It depends what resistor blew and why.

If it was a power tube screen resistor, and it blew because the tube failed short-circuit, this is quite a common thing to happen and not a particular reflection on the amp - either that it will do it again (unless another tube blows) or the quality of the amp (although it *is* possible to design so it can't happen as easily).

If it was any other resistor you would need to know if it was a known issue with this model, and if the tech upgraded the part instead of just replacing like with like. Sometimes resistors fail just because that particular one was made faulty, and sometimes they fail because the amp design runs them too close to their power (or sometimes voltage, but this is rare) rating.

What amp is it?
