I had been waiting over 6 months for a bubinga head but thanks to a forum bro I got heads up on a combo and went for it. It arrived 2 days ago! It has joined the stable with my other amps. L-R: Mk IIC+ in imbuya cab, custom built amp, MK5, custom built amp.

As you can tell by the 2 of my guitars I am an old school player. I am loving the MK5. With all the young guys asking if it had enough overdrive etc I was a little concerned it would not do what I wanted, old MK. I am loving the MK1 mode. As you can see it takes a little extreme setting to get the mk1 mode balanced to my ears but I have been playing all my best Santana stuff with a big smile on my face. Yes the sliders are set for the mk1 channel,no V here. No it is not a MK1 re-issue, it is better. I had a MK1 re-issue, good luck getting a good sound at bedroom level. Also remember it was really a one channel amp. You could never really go from clean to OD.
As much as I like my MKIIC+ it could never really get the SMOOTH lead of the MK1. THis does.

That EQ on the MkI mode is very important, as well as turning the bass knob ALL the way down. When I had my '78 MkI alongside my '84 C+, I told a freind that if I could choose, I would have the C+ for rhythm and the MkI for lead. Great looking setup, BTW. :D

It really pisses me off that I couldn't get my sound with it. Then again, I don't have like $2,800 to blow on an amp. :/

You are right the bass is ALL the way down and you have to push the mids and presence to brighten it up.
The other thing I have found that I really like is mis-matching the stock speaker- plug it into the 4 ohm socket . As you can see I have plenty of speaker options: the thiele has an altec 417, I have another 1x12 cab with an EV, the Avatar has a celestion gold with a celestion Heritage 65, the boogie 2x12 has a celestion blue and weber ceramic blue dog (have to be careful with this cab,it can only handle 30 watts), the bubinga cabinet is a 4x10" cab with webers (2 alnico,2 ceramic) however the stock 90 is holding its own. The large hardwood cab must add something because I have never been a fan of the 90 speaker in the MKIIC+.
I have the MK5 set-up with my lead on channel 2 MK1 and my rhythm on channel 3 MK4. I have my clean on channel one "clean" at this time (humbucker guitars) and think I will use my zendrive or OCD on channel 1 for mild bluesy overdrive.
This amp really delivers alot for the buck when you look at it.

I know this is a boogie forum but let me say something about the two custom amps in the photo. They were both built by my brother. The one sitting betweeen the two boogies, in two cabinets, is my 'POD' amp. The bottom cabinet is the power section it houses alot of glass. You can select 2xEL34's or 2x6L6's or 4xEL84's or 4x6V6's (all cathode biased). The top cabinet houses the pre-amp section. You can select either a vox AC30 inspired pre-amp or a bassman/marshall or a blackface. This thing sounds GREAT. The amp on the left is an EF-86 pre-amp- tweed inspired tone stack- 15/30 watt cathode biased El-84 amp. Some of the sweetest cleans imaginable. as you can see I have a thing for El-84 amps and bubinga cabinets.

That's some serious stuff! Very nice...
Love to hear some clips!

Great looking set up. I really like the natural wood finish. I wish I had the money back when I bought my Boogie cabs to get the natural wood.

Congrats man. That is one beautiful amp... and couple of PRS'.

I have a thing for figured wood. I have a couple other PRS's as well.

Guitar Showcase also has a Santana 1 (with the two mini-toggles like the one you have on the right) in case you're interested... in Dark Sunburst.
