Brand new Mark IV owner wondering about tubes

I just got a brand new mark iv widebody head from someone off of ebay and it is in pristine condition and it even came with a warranty! I was using one about a year ago and a friend of mine put ruby 12ax7's in it and it sounded great. Has anyone used these for a mark iv before? What are some tube configurations that anyone has used? Let me know about settings also.

Ruby is a distributor, they buy from several companies and relabel the tubes that pass their matching system. You could have had a number of different tubes. They do hype the Chinese stuff alot. Go to Magic Parts and see if you can match up the tubes, you'll have a better understanding of the tubes you like hearing.

Ruby's seemed kinda soft for my taste. I am using JJ pre amp tubes in my Mark IV right now and they sound really good. I've been mixing it up lately. Tried Ruby's, Tung Sol, LPS, GT's and several Chinese and the JJ's win, for now anyway.
