Does anyone have comments on this pedal?

I was thinking I could use it to scoop more mids out of my Nomad 55 4x10 and boost channel 3 all at the same time. Also, should an EQ pedal be ran through the loop or up front.

Any comments would be appreciated.

GE-7 is an ok pedal though they have come a long way since they made that one. I am sure others will chime in with their fav's. As the owner of said pedal, I can say it will do different things before and after your preamp. Just do not get too carried away with your settings unless you like noise. I find that if you leave things pretty much alone but just boost some with the level it is a nice clean boost. That being said, it works better if you cut values than if you raise any values with exception to the level slider. The only problem is that you then have to turn things back up behind it. The pedal isn't very difficult to figure out.

Treat it like your little friend. Take it out and play with it. If you like what happens keep going. If it starts doing something you don't like stop.

My experience with the GE-7 in the effects loop is that it makes the tone sound dead & lifeless. I tried putting mine in the effects loop of my 60 watt Mk IIb combo (no 5 band eq) to try to tame the mid's, and it just kinda made the sound take on an almost solid state characteristic, made the tone seem more 2 dimentional instead of 3-D, regardless wether or not which frequencies were boosted or cut. Does not work as well as the onboard 5 band EQ that is on my no-stripe Mk III Simul-class.

The on board EQ that Mesa makes is a great EQ. There is no doubt that it sounds better than a pedal. Boogiebabies just talked about the EQ on another thread. It seems as though Mesa took some time designing it.

Again, like any other pedal, the GE-7 will only do what you make it do. Sure you can make it sound bad, but you can also make it sound good. The problem with the GE-7 is that if you move the liders too far from the centerline especially in the direction of boost then it tends to color your sound. The coloring of your sound is kind of common sense but it is not exactly as you might think. With too high of boost amongst your sliders you tend to get some noise. This is why I suggest using the EQ portion as cut as opposed to boost. Then use the level slider as a global boost. If you need more than a subtle change in EQ I would not suggest this pedal. Actually, in that case, I would suggest a different amp too that is voiced where you want to be.

I like mine. I used to use it for a "solo boost".

And if you know the right frequencies you want to boost, it's verrrrry cool.

I've got such limited space on my board, so I'm not using one anymore - but it's a GREAT pedal.
