Hi guys !

Been wanting to get this kind of overall control over sounds, by using the switch relays and obviously the effects.
I've read a little about it, and also about the G-Major, G-Force and Eventides too for that matter..

My main priorities:

- Switching the Boogies channels and EQ and program it in relation to FXs in the user banks. Is the EQ-option possible?

- Using the boost switch as opposed to my Fulltone-Fulldrive 2 Mosfet. Does it work good?

- Using the inbuilt Tuner! Is it precice, even with Eb-tunings?

- Transparent sound which does not degrade signal...?

I'm of course looking to use this through the effects-loop, and getting rid of my pedals, pedal power and pedal board.
I don't use a LOAD of effects, so the effects in the G-System looks to be more than enough, but theres always good to have a little headroom if I one day should need.. say.. the harmonizer!

Would you recommend this, based on the above-mentioned requirements?

I'm looking for the ultimate simlicity.. obviously Through tough programming.. hehe! ;)

Replies will be greatly apprechiated! :) Cheers!

Most Boogie heads have external switching jacks, which allow you to connect relays on your switcher to the functions, and switch them that way. That is how I do it with a GCX Audio Switcher. This unit has 8 loops, so the ones that I don't use as relays, I get to use to switch pedals in and out with its true bypass loops, also at the touch of a preset. VERY handy!

The G-System and G-Major have a few relays built in, but not many....only two I believe.

Being an older model, I'm not so sure the the C+ has the external switching jacks. Obviously a problem for you.

If the C+ has some sort of a 5-pin jack for its footswich, you can have Axxess Electronics make you a custom cable for that jack, which will connect to their amp controlling unit...I believe a CFX-4 or something very close. This is another option if it does not have the external switching jacks.

So, you now have control of the amp, one way or the other via MIDI. If you got the G-System, you could now pre program all the effects and channel combinations of your choice to buttons, and get going. If you got the G-major, you'd need something to control everything....I use the Voodoo Labs Ground Control Pro. Beautiful unit, that is VERY easy to use.

Now, you have to choose which way to go (assuming there are no external switching jacks, as that is my impression)

Route 1:
Axxess Electronis CFX-4 w/ Cable: ~$300
Ground Control Pro: $400
G-Major: $400
(OPTIONAL) GCX Audio Switcher: $400....if you'd like to switch some pedals, etc. with MIDI...I LOVE this thing!

Route 2:
Axxess Electronis CFX-4 w/ Cable: ~$300
G-System: $1500

Now, a few things to consider.

The G-System allows you to loop 3 pedals. If you get the Axxess, its relays are useless to you. You're looking at $1800 for that setup. To make it all nice and clean, you'd probably want to seperate the G-system into its two parts, and rackmount the "brain." Essentially, this will be your g-major, and a small portion of the audio switcher.

If you go with setup #1, you have the same functionality, with even greater versatiliy, more loops if you get the GCX, for $1600. Personally, its a no brainer to me, I think this way is the better deal. The prices show so too...you get more, for less :D

Hope this rant helps...I remember when I first got into MIDI...it was confusing beyond all belief!

Oh, right...as for cables, you're going to need MIDI cables to wire up everything that is being controlled by your unit. Setup one would require 3 midi cables. Setup two would require one midi cable, and whatever cable is used to connect the g-system footswich to the brain. Obviously, two more instrument cables to run your effects loop to the effects processor. And pedals that are looped will also require cabling.

Again, hope that helps!

And PS: I'm selling a Rocktron Xpression if you're at all interested. In all honesty, I much prefer it to the G-major...much more transparent, and to my ear, better effects. It's brand new, in box, ordered it from GC, decided I was just oing to stick with my single pedals, and then couldn't return as it was a special order. Let me know if you'd be interested!

Hi !

Thanks for the answears!! ;)

Just one question remains; the need for external switching on the C+.

It does have a footswitch input, designed to use with a standard non-powered switch. It also features 2 inputs for EQ and Reverb/Deep Pull, which, to the best of my knowledge, would require a Stereo cable.

There's no MIDI output or anything similar.

Would it still work with JUST the G-System?

John Petrucci somehow gets a bunch of C+'s to work at the same time via midi. Take a look at his website and ask these same questions on his discussion board. I'm sure someone knows.

So, I will not be able to switch channels on the amp using JUST the TCE G-System with proper cables?
