My BA sounds like an old Gramaphone even with nothing plugged in. I tried plugging it in different locations, spinning the knobs up and down, all 3 power tube settings- same result. The static comes in about 5 minutes after the amp is on. Probably would be drowned out by the guitar at gig volumes, but not so much at home.

All tubes are new JJs, and are less than 2 months old- maybe 8 hours total. I tried the 'chopstick trick' on both preamp and power tubes, but neither set is rattling. All tubes look like they are glowing correctly. Read through some other similar posts and they suggested swapping the preamp tubes.
I will try that (they don't make it east to get to these!!), but is there anything else I can try?

Was it doing it before you changed tubes two months ago?

If not I'd say there's your answer. One out of the new 12 is failing. Did you save (of course you did) the old tubes? Start the swap......

Does it do it with nothing plugged in?

On standby?

Best of luck.

i'd try swapping the pre amp tubes...

on my blue angel the jj's were fine, but when i changed the tubes on my 400+, i had one or two NEW jj's fail in the pre.

also on my lil dawg amp, i had a another new jj pre amp tube fail.

they didn't respond to the chopstick test either, they were just crap.

ummm, not buying any more jj tubes

This didn't happen before the swap. This happened 2 months after. When on standby, it is silent. When I take it off standby, even without a cord plugged in, the static is there.
Yes, I kept the old tubes, and swapped V1. It stopped. Swapped V1 again with the JJ I had taken out, and, it the static didn't come back. (!?!)

Maybe the contacts with the pins were dirty? Maybe the JJ is on its way out and is being intermittant?

that was the problem...unless of course, it comes back!

play yr geetar, have fun
