I've found that the muff can be used effectively on channel one clean and pushed, channel 2 raw and vintage, but anywhere further in the gain chain than that would be overkill. mesa's have incredibly high gain and you really never need anything more to distort them. if you want a different ''flavor'' you can add a tubescreamer on some kind of low setting, but i've never found the need.

i always wondered why people use screamers when you dont need a pedal with a rec
