I don't have a problem with using my combo alone..But...The V sounds best with a 4 ohm load. Smoothes it right out, Becomes much more touch sensitive and dials out the harsher high end tones. Been using mine in 45 watt mode..diodes in...yeah baby...in the zone. anybody else using the V that way????

I'm running a four ohm load (one open-back 1x12 and one closed back 1x12), but not at 45 watts. ;)

Isn't this bad for the amp? Don't you need to have at least 8 ohms?

A 4 Ohm cabinet is a suitable load (as you can read in the user manual) although they say that the "best" load is a 8 Ohm cab (it's an output dynamic matter I guess). For example, if you connect two 8 Ohm cabs the overall load is 4 Ohm, no problem at all.
BTW I temporary used the mark v head with the cabinet of a 212 Fender Deville that is a 4 ohm load (two 12" 8 ohm speakers in parallel) but those harsh high freqs were there... anyway it sounded good.

This topis has been cover many many times those comments are too vague please refer to manual.

Warning! If you connect a lower load than indicated on the output you risk frying your output tranformer if you crank the volume a bit. It's as simple as that. Safe mismatch is higher load than indicated on the output selected.

You need an eight ohm load if you're plugged into the eight ohm output, but a four ohm load works just fine using the four ohm outputs. ;)

When you run the combo (8 ohms)with a 8 ohm cab..you use the 4 ohm outputs...look on the back of the amp it says on the 4 ohms outputs..2x8ohms. also check the manual...I suspect a lot of problems with tubes and some overheating complaints with the V are because some are connecting 2x 8 ohm speakers to the 2 8 ohm speaker outs.. the result is bad sound and heat..

So does this mean I can run my 2x12 rec cab in either the 8 ohm out put or the 4 ohm output? It has the 2 v30's in it.

I have a Roadking 412 cabinet that I will hook up to my combo and report back. It has either 8ohm open w 2-c90, 8ohm closedback w-2 v30's or 4 ohm with all 4 speakers. I do recall reading somewhere, although I can'd find it right now, that an 8 ohm load would be more punchy and a 4 ohm load would be smoother.

That's what I meant

It's all in the manual.... Anyway, generally speaking, it's NOT safe for any power amp stage to be loaded with a "low" impedance; in any case the load MUST NOT be less than the load indicated at the outputs. The two 4ohm outputs and the two 8ohm outputs are (each couple) in parallel, therefore if you want to connect two 8ohm cabinets you should use the two 4ohm outputs (8//8=4ohm on a 4ohm output stage) otherwise, using the two 8ohm outputs, the effective load will be 4ohm on a 8ohm output stage and this IS DANGEROUS for the circuitry and the power tubes. The safe mismatch is the connection of ONLY ONE 8ohm cab in the 4 ohm output, although not the best solution.
