320 kbps mp3, available for download or stream.

the story:

a favorite hot sauce, that depicts a bat breathing fire whilst flying over a swamp during a full moon, inspired the song.
this song is the origin of the name of my band.....

all guitars done with a Carvin DC200Koa, into a Boss DS-1 into the boogie MKIIb, thru a greenback single closed back cab miced with a SM57 off axis.

'cept i think the download from nowhere radio (at 320 kbps) sounds WAY better than the 128 streaming from soundclick...
but, there it is.

thanks masque!

this one, was a blast to record...

i had the lick down cold, from years of jamming it...

the idea was, how many rhythm tracks could i blend together, playing the same thing, with different sounds, before it started to bog down..

for me, the number was 4.

that was one experiment...

another, was room mics, on the solo parts....

i ended up discarding them, and only using the one close miced sm57 track.

i also did something a bit wierd with the mark2b head while doing the solo tracks....
i placed the head on the ground, right in front of the speaker, so the volume was just killing the back of the head, where the tubes are...

there seemed to be some.... magic of sorts, there....

thanks for listening!

That's very, very interesting. Sounds fantastic as usual. Great chops and superb control. The layering worked really well on this one. Good definition with nice subtle differences in tonal flavor. Good work.

Nice!!! Loved the tone and phrasing. Nice experimenting as well, never would of though of putting my head in front of the speakers.

thanks for checking it out man...
some of the guitar tracks, were done with a Demeter Isolation cab, with a celestion vintage 30 and a sm57....
others were done with a at4033 off axis with a greenback in a closed back roland cab...
but each track was designed to have it's own sonic signature, which really made it easier on mixdown....

glad you liked it..
and the experiments...
yeah, try it some time...
put the head on the floor, right in front of the bottom speakers, and then mic it up top...
the volume and intensity of the air waves moving, directly in line with the power tubes, definitely adds some strange mojo.
i like it!

more, on the issue of one of my experiments..

the putting of the amp head in front of the speakers:

you know the tubes are sensitive....

it's one of the things (this weird anamoly of sound) that mesa used to use as a selling point for their combos.. or any combo for that matter..

the tubes are hanging right inside the combo cabinet, which is throbbing with sound waves...

and these sound waves act sympathetically on the tubes, which is in turn amplified, and so on and so forth...

so, it's much easier to get singing sustain that is directly tied to the speaker/head/air/guitar connection.....

that magic voodoo stuff...

after much experimentation, i found that if i put the head directly in the path of the most intense sound, it would act directly on the tubes in the head, and translate into some voodoo...

and this voodoo, is subject to actual line voltage, and the volume you play at, and the moisture in the air, and the way you hold your lip.

:)

try it....

the louder, the better...

but if you have super sensitive tubes, you may just get proximity "ringing", which may mean you need to change a tube(s).........

yeah man, i commented on this track over at HC. love the song!

still trying to add you on my friend's list, but it's asking for email or last name. PM me so i can add you.
