Hey Everyone,
After a few months of searching and spending hordes of cash on amps, Ive come back to Mesa. My first Mesa was a single recto solo 50 head. Got it off ebay, and in the first 5 minutes the power tubes blew. I had my tech inspect and retube, and I came to the conclusion that it wasnt doing it for me. So I sold it and went through a few other amps such as an Egnater tourmaster, and a Peavey jsx. Both great amps for sure, but still wasnt there. So, while messing about in guitar center, I decided to sit down with a dual rec for a while. It had more headroom and power, and way more options than my single rec. I really liked the voicing of Mesa amps, so I tracked down a gently used 3 channel dual rec in mint cond with 4 yrs left on the warranty. I also bought a brand new Mesa 4x12. Got a screaming deal on the cab that I couldnt pass up. Im now entering the phase of endless tweaking to find my tone haha. But Im having fun! I had a brand new matched quad of Winged C 6L6s that I put in the dual as well. Glad to be back!

Awesome! Have fun tweaking... its time consuming but fun.

been useing the guitar center floor model for a week now ,waiting till next week when my roadster comes!! i orderd the head and a 2x12 cabinet, i hope i did the right thing with geting a 2x12 ......its good to hear good things on here about the amp, like any new owner im nervous ,but im going for it and im sure it will be a great partnership with my 2 les pauls ......should work great for the music i play ,all black label tribute.. www.myspace.com/blessedhellride1

I agree with you. Mesa has good stuff. I play a JSX and i sat down with a Triple and a dual the other day, and It made me kinda sad to play back on my JSX. I REALLY want a Mesa now...

Even the cleans were freakin awesome. I cant believe how nice and full they are...

The other guitarist in my band uses a JSX and it plays real nice with my DR. His is voiced with more mids and highs and a grittier distortion, while i've got mine tuned to the low mids with the gain dialed back a bit from his and they compliment each other beautifully.

Still, he is terribly jealous of the DR and has been gassing for his own ever since i fired mine up for the first time 2 years ago. I'm not sure i want us both using the same amp but i'm not going to deny him if he finds one. I will say though that i think the cleans on the JSX are better than the DR, especially at high volumes. Loads of clean headroom there. It doesn't match the fullness and the snarling bite of the DR though.

What did you have to pay for the head and cab?

Just curious as I sold a triple rec 3 channel and a recto cab a few nights ago.

Yes, the cleans on the JSX were awesome, But the cleans on my dual rec are just as amazing. I keep the master on my clean channel at maximum, and keep the gain lower, at around 11:00. Plus the punch I get through the Mesa cab makes it cut right through.

I paid $1100 for the head, barely used (with 4 yrs left on the warranty), and I paid $650 for the cab, brand new never used!

Times have gotten a bit tough recently, and I will have to sell my Mesa rig. Im already trying to sell the JSX, which is a super awesome amp in its own right, in case anyone is interested in these amps. I have a cool vintage Marshall rig that I can use till things turn around again.

There was a guy on the local CL that had a 3 channel Dual Rec and Recto cab for $1250 last week

I didn't have the money, or I would have snagged it up. Someone got it within the first day.

Anyway, I had a 3 channel Triple several years ago and sold it to buy my 2 channel Dual. I've been contemplating buying another 3 channel head again.

yea i came full circle this year too...after using dual rectifiers since 92 i thought i wanted something different..so i went through a marshall jvm 210, a splawn nitro, and a randall rm100..and im back to a 2 channel dual recto and couldnt be happier...the jvm was the worst out of the above..
