I'm thinking of replacing my mesa vertical recto 2x12 ... it's a great cab for metal but not really for what I play (ambient rock), and i feel the vertical 2x12 is inferior to the horizontal recto 2x12.

I was looking at Avatar 2x12's, and they seem to have a lot of good reviews. I'm just wondering, since they have the 'vintage' design and the 'premier' design, does anyone know if they have much difference in sound? Or is the difference mainly just cosmetic? I like the looks of the vintage one better, but if its voiced for more 'vintage' tones it might not be the best choice for my music. If I do get one, I will probably get 2 V30s in it.

I was also considering finding a used marshall 1966a 2x12... anyone have anything to say about those?

By the way i will be posting soon a custom cream with Tan cloath 2x12 normal rec cab if you are interested, I might be into trading. what part of MD are you at? I am at alexandria VA.

The avatar cabs, i have heard nothing but good about them, i just personaly dont like the looks. But the avatar cab will not have the exact sound of a mesa cab, they get there V30's specialy made.

Hello, I have an Avatar Special 2x12 and have talked about it on other threads. I do like that cab and it's well made. I believe that the only difference between the special and the premiere is tolex and the white piping.

The Vintage Premium has larger dimensions which may give it more bottom end. I think that it's a good looking cab. Unfortunately, I haven't seen one in person or heard it played alongside it's sibling.

The Vintage and the Premier differ in that the Vintage cabs have boxed finger corner joints while the Premier and Special cabs have rabbited corner joints. Also, the main difference between the G212H cab and the Premier cab for $40 more is that the Premier is the same cab but with white piping, upgraded jacks and wire, cursive white logo and more exotic color choices. Otherwise the construction is the same. I have three Avatar cabs now and I think they're great. The first one I bought was the G212H with two Celestion Alnico Blues, WOW what a box full of tone that thing is. Then I wanted something that could handle the power of my Mark IV so I tried out the original G410 (before they changed the speakers in it) and liked it so much I bought a second one. For some reason Avatar has modded the G410 cab from a closed back cab with Celestion G10 Vintage speakers to a semi-open back with Eminence Ramrod 10's.
