I borrowed a purple stripe Mark III S (60 watts, no eq, no reverb) from a buddy, took it home, and dialed it in. This thing sounds yuuuuge: http://dlpas.co/kce0.mp3

Yep, there are those Boogie mids. Sounds good! I should experiment with running my purple stripe III+ without the EQ.

I got a dm asking me what the settings were:

Vol: 9
Treble (pulled): 9
Bass (pulled): 2
Mid: 5
Master (pulled): 3
Lead drive (pulled): 7
Lead Master (pulled): about 1.2
Presence: 10

Using a 2016 Les Paul with stock humbuckers.

Not at all. I was really shocked when I read presence=10; I would have never guessed it. Maybe, as you said, the key is in the lack of onboard EQ.

Thank you for sharing your audio and your settings. I really appreciate it.
Daniel
