Anyone using an extension cab live with the ED?

I just scored an ED 1x12 combo today from Mesa in Hollywood. I have three gigs this weekend- one indoors and two of them outdoors so I get to launch this amp in several different environments. I already know that I am going to grab another cab but I would love any input any one can offer about their experiences: 1x12 vs 2x12, MC90 vs. V30, ED cab design versus any others... Jay at the shop was suggesting doing a closed back 2x12 w/V30s for variations sake. Sounds cool to me. What say y'all?

I have a Marshall 2x12 closed back with vintage 30 that I have used live but I keep going back to just the 1x12. The last show I played I didnt even plug in the Marshall cab. I just put my combo on top and let her rip. Hands down the best stage tone I have ever had. But I have to admit the Marshall cab on the bottom looks cool and our singer thinks the marshall is key to my great tone.

Thanks guys. Friday night I played the amp in a dive bar, Saturday day I had a large stage outdoor gig and in the evening I had an outdoor gig along the shoreline- vastly different situations and the ED more than held it's own in every situation. I'm convinced I do not NEED an extension cab but I'm going to pick one up anyway for more fun. I like the idea of the two V30s, closed back cab but I'm worried it might be too "rock". I'm going to be covering a lot of different ground with this amp and I'm still on the fence with the 1x12 ED cab vs. the closed back 2x12 V30s cab. The ED cab is 3/4 closed; I wonder if that will still sound good with 2 V30s? Does anyone have the 2x12 ED combo?

When we were testing amps at the local Long & McShaft, I tried the 'Dyne head with the Mesa Road King 2 x 12. The Road King 2 x 12 has two sealed chambers in it. In one side it has a c90 with a 3/4 back configuration while the other side is a sealed close back with a v30. The v30s have this ice pick treble spike and the c90 really helps mitigate that, giving a much more even response. This thing SMOKES and I also like the wheels on the cab! If you ordered a 'Dyne cab, perhaps ask to mix c90s with v30s! If you have 2 v30s in your combo, get a cab with 2 c90s.

Just my $0.02

NOW, if *I* was to make my own cab to pair up with the 2 x 12 combo, I'd run a 2 x 12 with G12H 30s or with G12ms. But ya, that is just my own taste. To each his own!

Yellowjacket- I took your advice. Today I ordered an ED 2x12 cab with both a V30 and a C90. I opted for the ED style cab that's 3/4 closed. It should sound pretty righteous...

Let me know how that works for you! Just one piece of advice, if you run a 1 x 12 combo simultaneously with a 2 x 12 cab, the speaker in the combo will be louder because the power from the amp will be divided by half. Half into the 1 x 12 combo and half into the 2 x 12 cab. If you are OK with that, GREAT. Just letting you know.
