I've been thinking about getting an extention cab for my 5:50. I don't need more volume, I'm thinking it will fill in the sound.
So does anyone use one? What speakers?

I know that many of the members of this board use extension cabs for their 5:50 amp and they love those cabs. I have read posts written about the various extension cab options available, not just Mesa cabs but other makes as well and even homemade cabs. Some members even have extensive comparisons for the various speakers you can load into an extension cab. Cruise around some of the older posts and you will be amazed at the amount of information members have posted. As for me, I have a 5:50 head with a Stiletto 4x12 slant cab loaded with stock V90's. AWESOME! I love it! I was actually planning to give myself for Christmas a Rectifier 4x12 straight cab but I fell in love with a seven foot tall, beautiful four tier display fountain for the entry way of my house.............. :D

I guess I should ad that I am mostly a home player. Will I notice a difference at low to mid volumes (9:00 to 12:00 on master)?

I run a 212 cab for gigging and band practice. I really don't think it is a necessity but it pisses off my Fender Bassman lead guitarist! Apparently I cut through the mix too much LOL!
I do find the Black Shadow in the combo works really nicely with the Enimence Legends in the cab. As for your living room, an Express 5/50 AND an extension cab, WAY OVERKILL!!!! Yes....I say get one! LOL!!!

I have a 2 x 12 550 combo with the two c90`s, I definitely will get an extension cab. Probably a 2x12 rectifier with the closed back. I want punch! to mix with the highs of the c90. As a bonus I think it`ll look great with the combo on top of the extension cab(can`t stand combo on the floor look)! The Tubenator and I had some good conversations about this speaker setup a while back. It`s on the board. Check it out! Thanks again for the help Tubenator. Jeff P.

I have a 2x12 custom made cab with V30's.
Wired so I can run the both the combo's speaker & the cab = 3 speakers.
Use this for gigs with the combo as my monitor & cab on other side of stage.

Yes you will notice a big difference with a 2x12 cab at any volume level

I only play at home and use my 5:50 thru a Avatar 2x12 with Eminence Alnico Red Fangs. Sounds awesome!

I took the 5:50 over my buddies and played it thru his Soldano 4x12. Not sure what speakers he had but it sounded even better!

Avatar cabs are well built and priced right. You can't go wrong IMHO

I just picked up a new Rectifier series 2x12 w/V30's, closed-back design ( http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/Guitar%20Cabinets/RECTOcabs/Recto2x12H-LG.htm ) and sweet mother of God it makes my Express 5:50 just sing with such fullness. I just love this amp. I've owned Dual Rectifiers and 50 Caliber amps in the past...but this Express amp is just something special to me. It has such a rich tone that is miles deep...I'm in love with this thing.

I run a 2x12 loaded with vintage G12h's - in fact I normally bypass the black shadow totally as I much prefer the sound of the G12hs...

It has to be at least 2 speaker though as they are only 25w each, but syaing that never ever had the amp over 1/3 of the way up on volume and easily cuts through drums...
