I've got a new Mini Rectifier due in tomorrow, and have a stock-pile of tubes. Mullard EL84's, JJ EL84's, Tungsol RI 12AX7's, JJ ECC803's, JJ ECC83S's, Mullard RI 12AX7's, Penta 12AX7M's, (Shuguang-made GT Mullard RI's), GE 5751's, GE/JAN 12AT7's, EH's, and more.. Anybody re-tube a new amp, and find great results?

I did it with a roadster to get some definition out of the tone. It sounded a little muffled. Changed out the V1 and I am very happy. Might go a little further, but time will tell when I make some more changes to the preamp section.

Mullard EL84's are the ticket. They just sound more aggressive than the JJ EL84's. I found, after much trial & error, that a JJ ECC83S works best in V1, a Penta 12AX7M in V2, Tungsol 12AX7 in V3, and JJ ECC83S's in V4 & 5. Sounds amazing!

JJ 84 in mine, v1 gold lions,v2,v3 old stock slyvania baldwin, japanese mullard type tube,v4 penta M,v5 EI

I just threw a Tung-Sol in V1 and Mullard EL34s in and it made a big difference. I didn't take the time to change one at a time, so I don't know which did what.

On CH1 I lost some gain and high end. I had to turn up the gain and mids to compensate, but it sounds great. On CH2 it added a bit of gain and clarity. Much nicer.

EL34's??

Anyone know what the cathode followers are in the mini? My guess is v3 and v5. Can anyone confirm or correct me on this.

I wouldn't be putting tings like tungsol in those positions

Yeah, that's important to know.(I have no idea, but I'm using the stock tubes for the time being.)
If this is the case GibsonVO5 might want to change that V3 out.

Nothing is listed in the manual. I found the Penta & Tungsol in V2 & 3 somewhat harsh in time. I've gone JJ ECC803S in V1, JJ's V2-V4, and a GE/JAN 12AT7 in V5. Cathode follower, or not, the GE/JAN is a sturdy tube, and really smooths out the highs, and the gain.
