Just wondering what you are using to control it.

Abacus, GCX, laptop computer, NASA satellite, etc.

I have an MB Abacus right now that I use with my MB Midi Matrix (big surprise I know).

Seems the TC controllers are somewhat rare and the 2290 manual says you can send MIDI messages to control every button on the front of the unit. Does anyone use a controller other than a TC controller to control those functions such as tap tempo, record (for looping), etc?

Did I say control yet?

Thanks in advance.

Aloha Bobby,

I use a 2290 (Got my 1st one back in '87) and used to use an 0144 to control the 2290 in previous rig versions from the beginning, and there are 2 assign keys on the 0144 that you can have do special functions such as tap tempo, sample hold etc... Fast trigger option is required if you want to do some other cool things that they're capable of though. You have to program the spec No. to the appropriate assign switch for a given result. See the Spec No. Manual

Currently I use a CAE RS10 Double expanded to control my rig, and I have a separate tap temp control to deal with the delay times.

Aloha,

Thanks Zachman. Just picked up a TC0144 and a TC2290 with the Fasttrig option. Not sure what Fasttrig offers if I don't have any trigger effects. If you know of anything it can do for me, please let me know.

Thanks again,

Bobby

EPROM 29.xx (FASTTRIG option) including a new add-on circuit board, allowing faster trigging of samples (record and playback).

Sorry it took so long to reply, I hadn't been receiving my email notices of responses.

How is everything w/ your 2290?

They are FANTASTIC, but they're VERY Loud and in order to get the goods out of them, they need to be cranked. In order to NOT be shot by the sound guy, attenuation or loading down the amp and reamping is what I do.

Updated pics of the rig:

Thanks...

As far as carting it around goes-- The whole rig consists of:

(3) 4x12 cabs w/ casters
(4) Heads (For the Journey tribute band, I use a Cameron High Gain Jose Marshall SLP, Mesa MKIII Coliseum Simul, Marshall 6100 Blue w/ EL34's, and a '65 Black Face Fender Super Reverb head) They travel on a dolly.
(1) 20 Space rack w/ Casters (200 lbs, and easily movable/liftable with just 2 guys-- me and an assistant--, but it doesn't do stairs)
(1) 4 space rack for the Power amp Sits on big rack and Rolls on rack
(1) Case for Foot Controller (48" x 17.5")
(3) guitars

The big rig is mostly for studio stuff, and larger shows. For "Normal" electric gigs, I usually use a MKIII Blue Stripe Simul-Class combo, a few pedals and a small rack with just an old BF Rocktron Intellifex, sometimes my Coliseum head and a boogie 1x12 cab, w/ the same pedals (TU2, Dyna Comp, Lead/Rhythm foot switch) and intellifex.

No, that wasn't my Mojave on Craigslist Hawaii. Are you in Hawaii? We have a gig coming up April 24th

My co-worker lives in Oahu and sometimes i have him buy stuff for me either in craigslist or other music stores there. I'll let him know that you got a gig (Journey Tribute Band) coming up on the 24th.

You got my utmost admiration with all that equipment you have. That's a lot of gear to maintain, program, hunt for bugs (if any), and just plain deal with it! :D

Thanks.

I've been using this stuff for years, and programming stuff is one of my favorite sports. I can practically MIDI map in my sleep. Maintaining the stuff isn't anything really-- just new tubes here and there, normal guitar maintenance, cleaning jacks w/ contact cleaner every now and then, and the occasional battery swap.

There are only 3 cons to owning/using this stuff, (It's big, heavy and expensive) and in my opinion the cons are far out weighed by the benefits.

The Band's name is Separate Ways, and the upcoming show is a huge deal in Waikiki, called Spam Jam, w/ around 20,000 people expected. http://www.spamjamhawaii.com/about.html.

We are headlining the show and play from 8-9:30PM. I'm looking forward to a good time. Hawaii people are HUGE Journey fans, and there's going to be a lot more people than the last gig, where the crowd was totally off the hook amazing. The gig is also a special event that benefits the Hawaii Food Bank, the largest non-profit in Hawaii that feeds the needy.

Thank you sir... Oh ya, I added a couple of videos a few posts up. Check them out if you have time later.

How is everything w/ your 2290?

Zachman,

No worries on the late reply.

Well the guy I was buying the 2290 with Fasttrig from tried to sell me a lemon two years ago. The display didn't work. Paypal saved me. I got so freaked out after that transaction that I couldn't get another one. Maybe I will try again. My Mesa/Boogie rig and rack, TC1210, and SPX-90 need a new friend.

Your rig continues to inspire. Wish I could go to Hawaii and hear it in person.

Aloha,

Bobby

Bobby,

You're welcome anytime, so if you ever find yourself taking a trip to Hawaii, shoot me an e-mail, and we'll crank it up and have some fun.

Zach,

Thanks for the open invitation. It won't soon be forgotten. If you are ever in Chicago, dinner is on me.

Hopefully I won't be one of those dopes that can't dial my rig in once I get it pulled together.

See ya around the net.
