Sorry I have taken so long
I dialled back the lead drive and turned on the mod and i noticed I lost alot of low end
but it cut a bit better I have posted a crappy you yube video to demonstrate this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r80UrOK5S6k
let me know if you want to me to try anything else.

Cool thanks man. Yeah I see what you mean, the tone is killer at the beginning, looks like the mod is engaged when you pull the Middle knob? What guitar, pickups & cab/speakers are you using, the tone is HUGE!

Thanks for posting a video, sure beats reading about it when you can hear it, thanks!

I used an esp m 400 with emg 81 pickups through 4 homemade theile cabinets
with 2 evm 12L an celestion v30 and a celestion t 100
I used my axefx for eqing nothing else.

What were the settings of your axefx? Did you run it in the loop?

Ive tried the c27(v1), c30(v3) & c516(I believe, presence) mods. The c30 mod affects the lead channel only & is a definate step in the right direction. Smooths it out nicely. The c516 mod gives you a wider range with the presence knob. Before I ran it at 1 max, now I go 5-7. The c27 mod affects all channels by cutting more hi end frequencies. For me it took away too much sparkle in the clean channel. Also the lead channel sounded too muffled with both the c27 AND c30 mods. Right now I run with the C30 & c516 mods. Still isn't a IIc+. But it is in the ballpark. Is there more to the III+ mod then that?

As far as preamp tubes you gotta try a RFT in v3. That tube was made for the lead channel.

On a side note Im interested in the differences between the red & blue poweramps. The blue's poweramp is said to be closer to the IIc+ than the red's.

The + option smooths out the lead channel and makes closer to the C+ tone. Think of it as a cross between the 2 amps and that's the end result you get with the mod.

This sums it up. I think the biggest difference between a IIc+ & a III+ lies in the midrange. The IIc+ has a wide midrange where the III+ has a more narrow upper mid spike.

You know my dilemma is this, it definitely needs new tubes, it also needs a cap job, it's an '87 and has the original caps still in it so 24 years later I think it's time...

Please don't think this is a flame, that's not my intention at all. :D Have you noticed leakage from the filter caps? Have you noticed odd tonal fluctuations? If not, then why do you need a cap job? I know why and why not to worry about these things, generally, but if you're not seeing signs of apparent degradation, why go to this expense? I've not heard that Mesa purchased crap caps during this time period, so only then would the electrolyte dry out. I'm honestly curious about your reasoning and thoughts. I can't learn anything if I don't ask. 8)
