Hi,Boogie Players

played my MK4 for over 15 years, but now its`time for the 2C+
(catched one for a reasonabel price)

hope its an original 2C+....

MB`s sign and the black + in around the power chord is there.
serial NR. 13870, is ok
chassis near the power tubes is signed MB and 12/84
Loop test is OK....

nearly full loaded: EQ+Reverb, hardwood head, but no SimClass, (just) the 60 Watt version

of course some (many) questions:

Big black painted letters on both sides of the chassis say SRG 45
sign of first owner?

the face plate is Gain boost instead of Pull deep at Master1
EQ switch is only marked EQ in and EQ out, but has three positions with
EQ Auto, EQ on, EQ out.

is this an early 2C faceplate just used for a late 2C+ amp?

no reverb tank there, i know it`s acutronics, but i have no idea which number
possible to use the MK4 reverb tank as a substitute for a while...?

what kind of standard hardwood was used in 84, looks like mahgonie,
shure no Imbuya or Bungiba like the MK4s......

by the way,
I always thought the 2C+ is overrated in terms of mojo ond hype,
but f*+k,
just played the lead channel in max. drive over a thiele and soundwise... this little sucker kills the MK4s lead stage in every way......

hope they are able to put this 2C+ sound in the new MK5, just for the people who can`t catch an old one......

kind regards

SRG stands for Sixty Reverb Graphic

Mesa used what they had, one of my IIC+s is a C->C+ upgrade and it has a Pull Deep, my original C+ has a Gain Boost.. go figure :p

Accutronics 8AB2A1B Reverb Tank.

Imbuya was the most popular but you could get just about anything.

you might have Koa wood, thats what this one suposedly is anyway:

many thanks to everybody, great forum!

the hardwood is not as dark as the KOA and has more rough grain.....
gonna try to post pics later....

still some more questions,

bottom of chassis, there are jacks.

small one in the middle: reverb tank jack?
guitar cable size jack right side (direction power transformator)
guess thats for the optinal reverb-eq footswitch?, stereo jack?
left side same size, guess thats just preamp out? or preamp out+ poweramp in? with stereo jack?

Anyone tried the Substi-tube 928 PR Power reducer sockets to play Class A (they say plate Voltage schould be lower as 450DC)

Thanks for help.....

hallo to all you boogie players....

did some work on the TooSeaPlus the last days...

cheked the reverb tank from my MK4A, correct number 9AB2A1B and put it in the 2C+ head.

very tight fit, I had to remove the wood panel and even 4 the rubber
washers from the tank, and now there is only as mall gap between tank and OT... maybe i have to use smaller rubber parts......

Are there different Hardwood Heads with and without cutout for the tank?
anybody has the same tank in a head without cutout ?

there reverb works without hiss etc, but reverb knob 1-3 nothing 3-6 few, and 10 only reverb like the MK4 with 3-4. I`m not shure if this is ok....

should I try the 3,3-K Ohm resistor mod in series with black wire to effect return jack...?

final question: the chassis of this amp gets real hot after playing for a while .you can touch, but not very long...is this OK
well I see the metall cooler rear right, is it mounted directly at the chassis or should there be some heat reducting chemistry between cooler and chassis..

 sorry for my strange english,
thanks and kind regards from south-west-germany

hey ... is that the head that was on ebay a couple of times ? I don't think that hardwood head is original to it, as there appeared to be no cutout on the bottom whereas there is a reverb knob ? also the wood looked rather like that late 70ies / early 80ies oak style and less like an exotic wood. it was before also up on the german boogie forum ...

in dem sinn mal grüsse in den norden aus der schweiz ... :D

hi bigmouth,
I dont`think it` the same amp, this one was only 1/2day at ebay....
but I think it`s a mismatch between amp and and hardwood top
-reverb amp but top without cutout for tank can,
by the way the top looks like walnut or oak, no exotic wood at all, a very vintage look, I think it`s from an very early series Mark, just used with the later 2C+ series....

kind regards und grüsse nach schweiz....

hey ... unsure if we are talking the same amp but sounds very similar ? it was first up for sale on the german boogie forum, then IIRC 2 times up on ebay with no bids:

http://cgi.ebay.de/Mesa-Boogie-Mark-IIC-1984-ULTRA-RARE-LOOK-TOPTEIL_W0QQitemZ220220566573QQihZ012QQcategoryZ46657QQcmdZViewItem

then listed again until it sold. this is the pic of the back I meant:

hallo bigmouth!

O well, right, after a close look, yes it`s really the same amp, but I bought it 6 weeks later from another person. He sold it for a very reasonabel price..,
First I thought it was an c upgrade, or somethin else wrong with the amp, but perfect sound and function and mesa boogie has confirmed yet that it`s an original 2C+.....the guts and solder joints also look untouched and original....
Maybe the seller didn`t like the sound..........

You have more info about this amp ?
kind regards /gruß in die Schweiz
