I made the mistake of going to modeling/pre, power amp rack when my beloved 2 channel triple rectifier was stolen. :'( It gave me a great tone but I just couldn't "feel it" and it always left me wanting more. The final stop was when I got a Triaxis/2:90 rig, I realized it was time to go back to heads as the rack was nothing but troubleshoot after troubleshoot. Sold the ENTIRE RIG! Thought about getting an AxeFx but I consider it a computer and computers don't hold value very long as technology moves FAST. Got a Mark V and some analog pedals and am mega happy now! Still miss my 2 channel triple though.

I would not buy the Axe just for effects(very good but Overkill most of the time).I also did not buy for "THE tone".This I am fine allready and found it in the Mark V

But what I do is to look for other sounds, amps and this was great in the Axe-Fx,with the downside of hours of tweaking(actually it was the AxeFX bringing me to Mark V after a Axe-real Mark IV blindtest-shootout where my bandmate couldnt tell the difference(and he has good ears)).Also I am still not sold to the FEEL story. With the right speaker (FR) and the right IR + tweaking an Axe reacts like a hard hit tube amp-to my opinion.

Anyway I will buy Axe-FX 2 once available as the tweaking will be much easier and no more Midi hassle

The only other amp I still need(but first lets see wether the Axe 2 can do it) is a old BF Deluxe reverb for purely its clean shimmer.Mark V cannot do this(was never intended to) Axe-Fx could also just come close but never get there really. So lets see
