Hey dudes, after selling my first Mark V to buy an AXEFX now a year and a half later I've soldthe AXE and have another Mark V on the way! Can't wait to get back to the simplicity of a tube amp!

The head should be here on Wednesday!

Looks like we both have an exciting week ahead of us then. 8)

Good to have you back on the board, Music Man!!! You've been a bit scarce here of late. Congrats on the Mark V....time to get back in the groove, eh! 8)

Welcome back,Music Man. I hope the ride was fun while it lasted! :D

Seems to be ALOT of similar situations going around with Axe Fx owners these days. Alot of people are selling theirs off to get back into the tube world again. This is partially one of the reasons I haven't pulled the trigger yet ( aside from looking at other gear alternatives for much cheaper).

I found myself spending a lot of time tweaking the Digitech GSP 1101 to find a descent tone, and the AXE is more complicated than the Digitech. Some guys did the tweaking, but I got tired of it.

Yep tweaking in those menus without real knobs gets old.

Did you ever consider keeping the Axe to use it for effects with your V?

Did you get familiar enough with the PC editing software? Was it really the menu driven interface that killed it for you?

I sold mine after I came to the realization that I only need 3 or 4 sounds. Clean, OD rhythm, OD lead, and maybe a Plexi-ish tone for wanking around. I don't use effects, record at home, or play in a bedroom at low volumes. I'm not a computer dork that enjoys building patches more than playing nor do I care to tweak for hours just to make my digital rig sound close to my other guitarist's "real" rig.
It's the best unit out there for modeling by far but that's like being the smartest 3 year old.

I'd love to sit with an Axe FX for a day to see what I could pull out of it. But I agree, in the end it would be just to much to tweak. When I I first tried a POD I found myself looking for tones and tweaking more so than actually playing and practising. I imagine it would be like that for the Axe Fx as well, except on a much larger scale.

I don't have the luxury of being able to afford the AXE and the V and I really only use delay for FX anyway so it would be way overkill.

The PC editing software is nice, but I don't like switching from pick to mouse to make adjustments. The menus on the AXE are pretty intuitive but its still a hassle to have to push so many buttons to get to the settings you are looking for. I pretty much stopped creating patches because it was just annoying.

I'm still waiting on the damn Mark V to arrive. I'm about to go crazy!

We need this to happen more often. That way we can see a nice decrease in prices so the little guys can finally get a chance to own one and sell it.

No need! With the announcement of the AXE FX II the prices of the older units have already fallen. I saw an Ultra on Fractal forum just today for $1500 shipped. Standards are approaching $1000.

I played through my friend's AXE last night at our weekly jam session (first we've had since I sold my AXE) and it is really a great sounding piece of gear, but the tweaking and menus just turned me off after a while. Can't wait to get back to knobs and no LCD! Sure I'll only have a fraction of the tones available with the Mark V and only delay for FX, but sure beats the alternative. The quality of the available tones are sure to be top notch!

Adam - I hear ya on that! Even though I've GAS'ed for it, I could of sold a bunch of my gear to have the Axe FX already.. but I already LOVE the sound I have now. I'm not trying to replace my sounds, rather just looking to have an addition to my sounds. Plus, as said, I love having actual amps, and vintage ones at that. There's certainly nothing that can replace having the feel of a real amp in your hands.
