So, over lunch as I was at our practice space hooking some things up to verify some additional pieces of gear (i.e. EP Booster in the loop). I didn't have my guitars with me, so I picked up an old Ibanez V with Bill Lawrence pickups in it to test. I turned on the clean channel and immediate thought "That sounds like the clean tone from Metallica's "One"". So, I played the intro and it sounded dead on, like the recording to my ears. It was strange...wasn't expecting that at all...
 
That's pretty interesting considering that the clean amp you hear on the album track is not a Boogie (it's a JC, probably). 8)
 
I'll post my settings when I go back on Tuesday. That is of course if I can duplicate it again :)
 
Yeah, it was pretty exclusively a Jazz Chorus that would be used to record clean parts on Metallica albums, all the way up to the Load albums. See here for an example: http://youtu.be/1qPQYt8i45Y It's not played very well but the point gets across as a demonstration of the sound in it's proper context.
