After a year of lots of use in practice and gigging, my JJ 6L6's finally went on me in my Mark IV B head. Before I re-order a matched quad from Bob at Eurotubes, I was hoping folks here could give me some recommendations of other good power tubes to consider. I have heard lots of good things about SED Winged C's, and some good things about GT tubes...any recs would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jay

Well I guess what is really important in choosing is what power amp, what sort of sound do you like/ dislike, and what are you looking for?

I play in a cover band that does everything from pop, slow ballads, and classic rock, to some heavier stuff like old Sabbath and DP. I like warmer, compressed tones for leads (I'm also a big Petrucci fan) - which my JJ's gave me and were a big improvement over the stock Mesa tubes IMO. I'm looking for bite and clarity, while still give me the warmth I want. Thanks :D

Phillips 6L6GC's are premier (esp. when pushed), Winged C's are amazing, and of course JJ 6L6GC's are great for everything rock!

I plan to try a matched quad of TAD 6L6WGC's from Vacuum Tube Valley. These are rated very highly. I will post once I have tried them.

I've had really good results w/ TAD 6L6's and EL-34's in my Nomad 55 1x12 combo. But I also
liked the JJ 6L6's I had before those as well. Hard to remember any major differences in tone or output, w/ out comparing side by side. Either way you should good! :)

I only tube my Mesa with Winged C tubes.

The TAD 6L6 is a great sounding tube when its working. Overall it seemed to be more fragile than normal. Might have been my set, but there are people all over the net that have had reliability issues with TAD.

So if you got a scratch, go with Winged C.
