This is weird. When the crunch channel is on (gain at ~ 2:00), anything I play on the A or E (low) strings, open or barre, sounds muffled and strange. At first I though the strings had somehow come out of the grooves on the bridge or something. But that wasn't the case. I don't hear the weirdness as much below the A string but it's definitely different. The clean channel sounds fine. I didn't notice anything unusual on the burn channel, although I had the gain up pretty high.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

That's a good question. The bass is @ 2:00, mid @ 11:00, treble @ 11:00. It sounds like a fuzz box gone horribly wrong. :)

That bass setting is high, but it shouldn't cause what you're describing.

Might be a bad pre-amp tube. Have you tried any others?

I haven't tried replacing any and was wondering which it might likely be?

I called Mesa and the tech suggested I replace V2 and/or V3. I replaced them both and it seems to have resolved the problem. I put a high gain JJ in V2 and it' a happy amp again. Thanks guys!
