Any suggestions? Is the recto model cab my only option?? Will it fit?

It will certainly fit on top of a 2x12, but wouldn't you rather use the combo's speaker and just add the new ported widebody Mesa extension cab? Or even a 3/4 back cab? If you are going to bypass the combo's speaker then you might thinking about trading it for a head or getting a headshell for it. Seems like a waste to not use the combo's speaker...

Ya I would not recommend the vertical 2x12 with the combo. It would be too top heavy, I would spend more time worrying that it would fall over than playing. Putting the combo on top of the 1x12 widebody (both the combo and the cab are 22 1/12 inches across) would be the better choice. If you want a V30 in the mix I'm sure a lot of people would trade for a C90.

I am really looking for a close back I can use in conjunction with my combo, so i guess it wold be best to get a widebody cab.

The newest ones Mesa offers is front ported like a thiele. I would shoot for that one if it were me and I had the money left over after the combo purchase. :D

This one?

I don't think you'd have any problems running the combo on top of the Recto vertical 2x12. You wouldn't have to bypass your combo speaker either. Rectocab = 8 ohms, Combo = 8 ohms, so 4 ohm load total.

I used my bluestripe Mark III on top of my vert rectocab several times. Didn't have any problems. The recto 2x12 is pretty stout and I never had any worries about my combo falling off - the top of the rectocab has a larger footprint than a widebody combo does anyway, IIRC (it's a little deeper)

That would be fine for sure, but I think it would be overkill since he probably bought a combo for a specific reason if I had to guess?

I've used a MKII C+ combo on top of 2x12 vertical Mesa cabs over the years and no problems whatsoever! Just make sure your impedence(Ohms) are correct if you use both cabs!

I don't see how it'd be overkill if that's what he wants. The Recto Vert cab sounds different than a 1x12. I am going to run my combo (a) by itself, (b) with my thiele, and (c) with my 4x12 depending on how big the rig needs to be. :)

I see what you mean. I figured if he bought a combo instead of a head that it was for a reason. :)

I wanted the portability of a combo. I was looking around for a good stand to get it up off the ground, then the idea of a smaller closed back cabinet crossed my mind. A little tighter sound, more push, and to get it up off the ground a little. I play in a small room right now, and have to stand at the opposite end to really enjoy the V tone.

That's kind of what I thought. :D If it were me I'd get the widebody and be done with it. It will look f-ing cool, and the front ported cab should give you all the kick in the pants you need while the open back combo will give you the airy highs so your cleans won't suffer.

1st post.....
I played a Mark 5 combo last week sitting in top of the Roadster 1x12 cab with a V30 in it. The cab is a few inches wider than the combo but it is light weight and the C90/V30 combo was very nice... much better than the Combo by itself imho. Been kicking myself in the a$$ for not getting both... but had a head on order.
