I was just wondering, as you can use the 2:90 power amp as a stand-alone amp (plug straight into the 2:90 from your guitar by selecting "Instrument" level), what it sounds like. Boogie say this is perfectly valid for a nice clean tone. Has anyone tried this? What does it sound like (compared to other amps/other setups' clean tones)?

I've tried it with my 50/50. Nice clean tone, but no tone stack for tweaking it !

Yeah true, that would be a disadvantage. Although I do like the natural tone out of my guitar, and the fact that the 2:90 also has 3 different voicings may help change the tone enough!

You may want to consider this:
Even a relatively cheap modeling pedal would sound "much improved" going through the 2:90.

I had to use my POD xt straight into my 50/50 for a while when my Triaxis was awaiting parts.
Not up to par with the Triaxis, but, damn! It sounded good! I also have a cheap Digitech RP 80 that sounds surprisingly good with the 50/50.

The pedal could still give clean settings, but with more control over tone. Plus many of them run in stereo so you could use both inputs on the 2:90.

Good luck with that! :D
