2:90 is DEAD

So I recently became the owner of a Triaxis and 2:90 rig. I took delivery and everything was fine. The two pieces were exactly what I was expecting until yesterday. I went in to jam and powered everything up but there was nothing. The 2:90's power comes on and all the fuses are alright but there is no sound. None of the tubes will glow either. Does anyone have any ideas for me PLEASE!!!!

Give Mesa/Boogie a call. They'll help you out, great costumer service. Also, a friend of mine's Triaxis has gone out about 3 times with in almost a year. Have you checked if it's the Triaxis?

The Triaxis is fine - I have since hooked it up to another amp to be sure and it was alright. It's definitely the 2:90, none of the tubes light up or anything.

The fuses in back are fine as well? What about inside? Does it smell funny? Does anything look burnt?

Everything looks alright. By that, I mean that there is no obvious damage, burn marks, smells, etc... The fan does come on with the power but that's about all that I get.

So NONE of the tubes light up? Both power and pres? :?: :?: :?:

Yup None of the tubes glow at all. I did it in a dark room and there was nothing at all to see.

Is your power transformer pluged in? (the big on) The PT powers it all. So I'd look there.

How do I know if it's plugged in? Where do I look?

Look to make sure there is no very small burn mark in the center of the white wiring harness. The tube warming circuit can get hot enough to melt the harness there and cause a short. Good Luck!

I think I found the problem. I don't know where to go from here but at least I found the spot that looks damaged. How big of a repair are we talking here? Is it a pretty simple, inexpensive fix or is there more to it?

I had a feeling in my earlier post the wiring harness was burnt. Same thing happened to mine and it seems my tech had seen this happen before on 2:90's. The tube warming/lighter circuit gets too hot and just melts through the harness. It was a cheap fix in my case. The tech soldered that circuit directly to the board. Your board doesn't look burnt under the harness so you're probably ok. Good Luck!

Someone on TGP said it happened to him and it cost 200 bux to fix it. I thought that was absurd. Hopefully my guy will be of the same opinion as you and fix it for a heck of a lot cheaper than 200 dollars.

FROM MESA TECH SUPPORT (Regarding the 2:90 repair)

Greetings,

The tech said that it appears that the filament overheated at the header which results in the charred cables you are seeing. This overheating caused the cable that supplies voltage to the filament to become disconnected thus is the reason why your tubes were not lighting up. The fix is rather straight forward and should be no problem for an authorized Mesa tech.

Got the call that my 2:90 is fixed and sounds great. The repairs were replacing the harness, cleaning up the board under it, straightening the chassis, and replacing 4 bad 6L6s. Total charge is 240.00 for parts and labor including 4 Mesa 6L6s. I am pretty happy with the cost considering I was expecting it to be much more.

I had my PT harness fry too a few years back! But it was the 3rd wire to the left (solid green). I too soldered the whole harness to the board.

Those quick connects put up to much resistance. They should spend the extra cash and just do it right. :evil:

Glad it wasn't too expensive. Cool. I agree w/leadfootdriver the harness sure seems to cause issues. Not holding my breath for any changes though.
