If applicable do you run the amp in 6L6 or EL34 mode? I understand that as the JJ's are a cooler grade they get a lot hotter in the EL34 position.

Thanks for the advice but I'm aware of the difference to the rectifier tubes which are in place. I thought the power tubes should all be the same size too, but apparently you can get STR 440's in 2 sizes. Hahah wtf is going on!?

Nah all 4 power tubes are 6L6GC STR 440's, 2 of which are slightly bigger. It's the ones that came with the amp too. :?

I'm putting the old stock tubes back in my dual rectifier. Since retubing they have been mixed up, two of the power tubes are slightly bigger than the other two. Where do these go? Also are the 12XA7 preamp tubes all exactly the same? Cheers!

I retubed my dual rectifier a few days ago with 2 GZ34's, 4 6L6GC's and the high gain front end preamp setup. The verdict - horrible. I've sat for days trying to dial in a decent sound and all I get is a really painful, boomy sound, even with the bass low. It sounds mildly better with the stock...

I own both a Marshall 4x12 and a Mesa traditional 4 x12 although I don't use the Marshall now... perhaps there's my answer! Dual Rec into traditional is sweet.

It'll be the actual plug socket itself, power surges maul fuses for fun! Your amp is probably fine - try plugging in somewhere else and see if that works.

After looking at the Eurotubes site I quite fancy trying trying the JJ 6V6's and GZ34's in my Dual Rec. Anyone done the same?
