Sold: Mesa Boogie DC-5 Combo Amp - SOLD

I'm selling my Mesa Boogie DC-5 combo. It works perfectly and still sounds great. Comes with original footswitch, full set of new tubes, and old mesa tubes as spares. I emailed mesa boogie to see what year the amp was made and was told it's one of the last made in 1999. Information and pics on...

Gotta a tone problem. Who doesnt right ?

The stock pickups in the Ibanez RG1570 are pretty weak, and I think that will help your low end a lot. Try out a good set of Dimarzio's, EMG's, or Seymour Duncan's and you'll notice a pretty big difference in your overall tone. I myself like Dimarzio's, but try em all out!

    The Official DC Club

I still own and love my DC-5 Combo!! I havent been around for a little while, in the middle of moving to a new place. Soon I'll be converting ole DC-5 to a head and whaling away again! PM sent btw.

    DC5 tube advice.

Wow, if I were to max my treble and EQ I would probably kill the neighbors dog. My treble is at 7, presence 4, and my 2200 slider is center and the 6600 is just above it. And this nails older Metallica to awesome leads. I do attribute this to Doug's Tubes setup, as before the amp was pretty dark...

The tone experiment begins... (pics, audio, vids inside)

One thing I noticed is that you've got the Firestation mic pre hooked up to the Firebox. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that just running one mic pre into another? Even though your not using XLR into the Firebox I don't think that its bypassing it, and I'm fairly confident that the Firebox...

I couldn't resist! Maybe a new STICKy post

Hahaha, that made my day. I may actually bid that 0.01.

    Eurotubes or Doug's Tubes???

I've had nothing but a great experience with Doug, but I've heard this from a few people lately. Hes most likely extremely busy nowadays, with so many people using him now. Hes probably doing 100 things at once, I couldn't imagine the amount of calls and e-mails he gets a day.

    Eurotubes or Doug's Tubes???

+1 on the SED =C='s 6L6's. I swear by these now. They do wonders in Mesa's. I myself have purchased from Doug's Tubes many times, and every time it was great service. I recently had a SED =C= arrive and it didn't work (first time this has happened over a few years with Doug!). I e-mailed him...

    Metallica tone (sorry..)

What he means is with a clean boost pedal (Overdrive). I myself used to LOVE EMG's for that old MetallicA tone, but EMGs are so one dimensional. When you can achieve the same sound plus some with a compression pedal and a overdrive pedal, why limit yourself with the EMGs? But with an Overdrive...

    Metallica tone (sorry..)

I've been seeing a lot of "not enough gain" posts lately and would like to put my thought behind this. Realistically your probably using too much gain when playing by yourself, and you would probably be surprised about how little gain that Metallica used (still a lot though \../, ). Try playing...

Replace all 5 preamp tunes in a Mark IV?

Depending on how old your stock tubes are, I don't think you will see too much of a difference with the Ruby's if the mesa's are relatively new. I really suggest getting a few different preamp tubes and switching them in and out of different slots to get a feel for what each sounds like, and...

    James Hetfield's 2008 rig pix

So I was watching the new Fly On the Wall for today(from missionmetallica), and i noticed James was using a Recto-verb combo. Figured this would be the right spot to post it if anyone was interested in knowing this kind of stuff.

    DC-5 Appreciation

I really want to do this mod, I'm just worried that I'll snip the wrong resistor. I wish there was a picture of where it is located. If anyone has or is willing to take a picture of where its located (on the later models for me, as the earlier ones its located somewhere else). I have yet to...

    DC-5 Appreciation

I absolutely love my DC-5, it really can do everything. I also use SED =C='s and a Doug's Tubes kit (the one he suggests if you E-mail him). I also use a Maxon OD808 overdrive for when I need it a little tighter, but really I am satisfied with every aspect of this amp. This is definitely a model...

    Tube Problem or Horrendous Feedback?

Sounds like a preamp tube to me. If you have a spare preamp tube switch it with each slot and see if it fixes it. If you don't have a spare try switching around different tubes in the preamp and see if the problem goes to other channels or all channels. You can eventually narrow down which tube...

Running a Mark IV Combo with a THD Hot Plate

As newfinator said about connecting it is correct. Also try to stay away from the cheaper speaker cables as well. I have used a THD Hotplate on a Carvin V3 and a Carvin Legacy, and on both it sounded horrible to me. It really alters the tone too much for me, but it may alter it in a way to...

disillusioned by mark iv and Mesa in general

Stop complaining. Get a bias mod yourself, their pretty cheap and easily done. Or better yet, buy tubes within the range of the amp. Ohh my that was hard. It's never going to be exact anyway because of the testers each company and distributer use vary, and each one will tell you a different...

Dual Caliber vs. .50 Caliber or similar

Well supposedly the DC-5 is exact to the DC-10, just ones 50watts and the other is 100watts. I can't compare the two myself, but I can say that the DC-5 can sound amazing at lower levels, while still having enough volume for any need. I'm sure someone here can let you know the differences, if...

    Mesa DC-5

As tetsubin said the DC-5 is a GREAT metal amp. Its actually extremely versatile, and can nail about anything with enough tweaking. I play a lot of older metal, nothing very detuned though (mostly Dream Theater, Racer X, Metallica kind of stuff), and it nails it, while having even more gain on...

    DC5 Tubes

+1 on the SED Winged =C='s 6L6's. I love them, they are a huge upgrade from the Mesa str 420 (which my DC5 had also).
