Seeing as I am the seller of this amp I might as well chime in here... First off, I bought it off this forum from forgivenman. He told me it was running perfectly, gave me "the tubes have a lot of life" line, etc... so I bought it and found out the 2 6L6's were old and mismatched (427, 430)...

Mark III sold. Picked up a nice 3 channel dual with a series loop mod on 7/1. Mark IV still for sale.

I'm looking for a 2 channel DR and would like to know what has changed on that amp since it's inception. Also, do the newer ones sound that much worse than the older ones? I've read both - that there is a big difference and that there isn't.

Not sure about cathode bias. I originally had it serviced it early February and according to the receipt he re set the bias for JJ 6L6's. Whether that meant putting it back to it's original state or adding something I don't know. He didn't mention anything about a mod so it's doubtful he did...

Changed out the preamp tubes and it made a definite difference. Even with the lower amounts of gain from the old tubes it was pretty sweet with a pedal in front. Like everyone says, it takes a while to dial these amps in. If you keep the bass control low and compensate with the EQ it's way tighter.

I've tried all combinations of drive, gain, eq and volume - same results. Are you talking rhythm 2 or lead? I'll try changing the preamp tubes and I think that should work. On rhythm 2 and lead do you notice a big increase in low end muddiness when the bass control is around 4 or higher?

How much gain should one expect from a Mark IV A? I think my preamp tubes might be bad. Rhythm 2 sounds barely like AC/DC distortion with the gain knob on 10 - is this typical? I get good saturation on the lead channel, but need to turn the gain and channel drive almost to 10. I'm just...

How do the single rectifiers compare to the older dual rec 2 channels and the new dual rec 3 channels? Are they the same as the newer 3 channel dr minus channel 3? I have to buy an amp asap and start on my CD so this is definitely my last question - for now.
