Should that be RP 8B, robredo? I think that's the number on my circuit board (Serial #53xx), 1980 MK IIB, loaded, from June, 1980

Mine is a real early (May, 1980, serial #53xx) fully loaded combo with X100 tranny and RP 8B board. It may have been a stransitional model between the last IIAs and the IIBs — but it definitely has the effects loop, etc.

Hi there, Here's some pics of my 1980 Mk IIB with what was said to be Koa. These shots were taken about six years ago, and the wood has continued to darken.

@s-fresh: Mine was one of the first Mk IIBs, with a serial number in the high 5300s. The date on the chassis, if I recall correctly, was May, 1980. (Definitely from 1980.) I'll try to post a pic later today. But it really, really looks like yours -- except mine's packing an EVM.

It looks exactly like mine, and my cabinet is Koa. They used it fairly extensively back then.

It is odd, though, that his serial number (which is solidly into IIB territory) doesn't correspond with what should be the standard back plate configuration for a IIB, i.e., no Effects Send and Return jacks, only the Slave and Preamp Out/Power Amp In jack. Can anyone make sense of this? Could...

The numbers quoted in the original post aren't correct, at least when it comes to the IIB. My IIB (effects loop on back) has a serial number of 5381, which puts it squarely in the MK IIA range according to Mesa.

Hi Bruno, From what I've read — and from the Mk IIB manual that you can download from Mesa's site — it seems that at some point in the run of the Mk IIB, Mesa added the "automatic engagement" feature. Would like to have that myself.
