    Flux Drive Review

I will review the pedal in the context of the manufacturer's description and the way I tested it (standalone before clean amp, push a driven amp and clean boost after overdrive). This is how Mesa Engineering describes the pedal: The FLUX-DRIVE™ is the overdrive pedal for those who want more of...

Anybody tried a 10" speaker in a Mark series combo?

If so, which speaker and what were the results? The background to this question is that the Mark series cabinet is very small and probably too small for a 12" speaker to let it breathe properly. Both the Black Shadow C-90 as well as the EVM sounded rather thin in the combo cabinet but...

    Mark III Purple Stripe Schematic

Hi, I was wondering whether anybody has a Mark III Purple Stripe schematic. Search turned up some threads with links but they are all dead. My Purple Stripe amp is a 60W with reverb but without the graphic EQ but a schem of the 100W would be fine as well. Many thanks in advance Stephan

Where to get a head shell for Mark III

I have a Mark III hardwood combo with an EV speaker. That thing is as you all know very very heavy. In addition I like the sound of my external speaker cab much better than through the combo speaker. Therefore I am looking for a head shell. 1. Can they be bought from Mesa Boogie (directly or...

Anybody Tried a DiMarzio PAF Joe?

The reason I'm asking is that most neck humbuckers sound muddy to my ears. Does the PAF Joe live up to Di Marzio's claim that it is not muddy? Any opinions greatly appreciated.

Phase inverter and negative feedback in Mk II-IV

I noticed that Mesa Boogie uses an unusual phase inverter and negative feedback circuit. The PI grid loads are 150k and 100k as opposed to the 1 Megs of the Blackface Fender. Is there any reason for making these so small and of non-equal values? I also noted that the input coupling cap (0.1uF)...

Increase Touch Response in a MK III

It seems that these amps do not get modded often except for adding a bias pot and a Rhythm 2 volume pot. While I like the lead sound of the amp I would like it to be more harmonically rich and more sensitive to touch dynamics. From the schematic I have seen that there are quite a few places...

    Speaker for Mark III

I have a 60 Watt Mark III, dark hardwood (Imbuya?), black stripe, Reverb, no EQ. It has a Black Shadow EV. To my ears this speaker is harsh and piercing. The amp sounds a lot better (fuller and smoother) through a cabinet (I have a D*mble style cab with a Jensen Neo 12" and an open back 2x10"...
