I have a 60 Watt Mark III, dark hardwood (Imbuya?), black stripe, Reverb, no EQ. It has a Black Shadow EV. To my ears this speaker is harsh and piercing. The amp sounds a lot better (fuller and smoother) through a cabinet (I have a D*mble style cab with a Jensen Neo 12" and an open back 2x10" with Ruby Alnico speakers).

I heard that some speakers sound different when the wires are swapped. Has anybody experienced this phenomenon with an EV?

What would be a smoother speaker for this amp? I am considering

- Celestion Classic Lead 80 or G12K 100
- Weber Chicago Ceramic
- Eminence Red White and Blue or Texas Heat
- Jensen Neo 12
or alternatively
- buying a head shell as this amp is too heavy anyway.

any input would be greatly appreciated.

Ive heard the Celestion Classic Lead 80's sound good with boogies. I have no first hand experience though.
