Strategy Eight: 88 Boost Function On Gain Knob

My new Strategy Eight: 88's manual does not address the Push/Pull Boost function on the Gain knob. It would appear that when IN the Boost is activated. When pulled OUT, it's deactivated. Can someone confirm this? Thanks,

    Slider EQ Question

That makes sense thanks. Unfortunately, the manual really doesn't go that much in depth regarding the EQ settings. My cabinet is a Mesa 4x10 Traditional bass cab. And yes, I do need to spend MUCH more time with it. I will say this, it sounds fantastic. My only other experience with Mesa is a...

    Slider EQ Question

I just posted this in the bass amp section but thought I'd post here as well since my bass amp utilizes essentially the same EQ slider function as some of the Mark Series amps. At least that is my assumption. I don't know how much traffic the bass amp/cab forum section gets. This was my post...

Strategy Eight: 88 EQ Slider Question

This is my first amp with a slider EQ. Having said that, I just received my Strategy Eight: 88 last night and was only able to test it out at low volume with all eight tubes engaged. I was getting used to the EQ function and noticed that the slider/s on the far right (last two) barely seemed to...

    Komet 60

I recently purchased a Komet 60 amp and wanted to post my impressions: First, the Komet 60 (for those who aren’t familiar) represents the last Trainwreck circuit design that the late Ken Fischer designed and worked with Komet Amplification to build. The Komet 60 ships with two EL34’s (60...

    Using Non-MESA Pre Amp Tubes

Without getting into the whole bias mod subject and assuming a stock Stiletto Ace, I don't see any problems with experimenting with differnt preamp tubes. Has anyone tried this without changing the power or rectifier tubes?

    Is Bias Mod Hype?

Why couldn't you run another brand without the bias mod. Wouldn't you just need to match the values to what's already in there? A simple bias test unit like the one Mojotone sells would do the job. It works by plugging into your tube socket then installing the tube onto of that and you get...

    Mesa Brand EL34 2007 vs 2014 (Present)

My Stiletto Ace Combo from 2007 (purchase new date) still has its original EL34's. Are the current Mesa EL34 replacement tubes any different or pretty much the same? I know it's probably tough to know since they re-brand all of their tubes but I was toying with the idea of replacing them. I...

Has anyone tried the SPAX7-A pre amp tubes? Is there any noticeable difference?

    Help - Stiletto Ace Head-Shell

I've sent them an email as well but haven't heard back as of yet. Just wondering if anyone else here had done anything like that. Thank you for the input.

    Help - Stiletto Ace Head-Shell

I have a Stiletto Ace Combo and would love to find a head shell that would accept the amp portion. I already have a matching ext cab. The combo is just getting too heavy to tote around anymore. Would love to break it down into a head/cab configuration. Thanks,

    Rule-Of-Thumb For Changing Power Tubes

My Stiletto Ace gets light usage as amps go and I'm wondering how often PT's should be changed. It still sounds great to me but then any changes can be gradual to the point where you may or may not notice it. Is there a rule-of-thumb on this subject? Thanks folks,

NGD! NAD! Traded all of my Gibsons for 2 PRSi + a DC-3

True. Point taken. I'm very fortunate that since I purchased mine in 2005 I was able to secure my R7 Gold Top Standard for only $2,695.00 and my '57 LP Junior (TV Yellow) reissue for just $1,895.00. Since then they have soared in price. Good for me but not so good for new buyers. Having...

NGD! NAD! Traded all of my Gibsons for 2 PRSi + a DC-3

I can only speak for the two custom shop LP's I own and they are every bit what I would expect in a guitar at that price point and heritage. Although I don't make it a point to closely examine every Gibson I come in eye-shot of (and why would I) I'm sure not every unit is perfect. Nor is PRS...

NGD! NAD! Traded all of my Gibsons for 2 PRSi + a DC-3

Yes those are very nice indeed although I wouldn't go flaming Gibson too loud. There are plenty of here (and elsewhere) that love them. I'm one of those. But congratulations none-the-less. Hope they serve you well and offer you what you seek. P.S. Love my Mac too.

    Has Boutique Lost It's Meaning?

I guess my recent purchase has elements of both corporate and ma & pa characteristics. I purchased a Bogner 20th Anniversary Shiva through Sweetwater online who in turn called the order into Bogner in Los Angeles. Since I took advantage of the no sales tax benefit, Bogner had to ship it to...
