When we talk about revisions of the 2-channel dual rec., are we talking about circuit revisions as well as front panel color, power cord..etc.? People mention some years of production sound better than others, if this is true, what changed?

In order to determine what has or hasn't been modified on the amp, it needs to be opened up. You need to take it to a tech who knows about this mod and can tell you if it's been done correctly. They could probably help you with the tube situation while you're there too.
