Having trouble getting a good heavy guitar sound

Thanks for the response! I think Ill record without stomboxes and such and just go straight into the amp for the rhythm tracks. How much should I dial back my bass? and how much should I increase my mids? Also is my treble ok as is? The other thing is ive heard that turning down the gain is a...

Having trouble getting a good heavy guitar sound

Hey everyone, Im having a lot of trouble getting a good heavy guitar sound for hardcore/punk/metal music coming out of my dual rec. My chords sound ok but definitely sound very amateurish, and lack presence. They dont really sound like they are right in your face but sort of like the were...

Not sure What Head to get by Mesa

I went out to the store and I played through a bunch of different mesas. The lonestar special, stiletto ace and deuce, a recto verb, roadster and the 5:25. To my dismay the ED was bought out 2 days before so i still haven't had the opportunity to play it, but out of the stuff i played, the...

Is the Dual Rectifier any good for recording?

Hey guys, I was wondering if the Dual Rec is good for recording in my home studio at volumes that won't shatter windows? Ive heard a lot of mixed messages, some saying that its good, some bad, some saying its good if you remove tubes to reduce the power etc. If it isn't the best...

    which 2x12

I would look into a Port City 2x12. they have this cool sound deflection technology "The Port City Wave™ cabinet is constructed with a 45-degree angle sound deflecting panel located at the back of the cabinet. (Between the top of the cab and the backpanel.) This panel is dadoed on both sides...

    Mark V or Roadster???

I really liked the Roadster I played, and it can get you that modern punk tone, or less crazy metal, but Im wondering if a Mark V head would be better?

Not sure What Head to get by Mesa

For sure, especially in tight times, theres no way I won't listen to each amp before I pull the trigger, there are just so many choices, and I wanted to hear from the guys that know what they are talking about :)

Not sure What Head to get by Mesa

the tone youve got with that ED is pretty good, but im sort of scared of the shared Eq. Also my friends have said get a used dual rec and a 2x12 cab w/ greenbacks. He says its friggen orgasmic

Not sure What Head to get by Mesa

The stiletto sounds pretty good, but is it really similar to a marshall? From what i can tell they are sort of similar but from what I have heard over youtube they have some major differences. If I wanted to go the stiletto route then would I want to go head + cab or combo?

Not sure What Head to get by Mesa

Does the Single Rec sound as good as a dual?

Not sure What Head to get by Mesa

Thanks for the detailed reply! Would I run these two at the same time doing something like amp switching with the channels? Or just for different tones I could switch amps?

Not sure What Head to get by Mesa

Im planning on buying a new amp, and Ive looked heavily into Mesa and I'm pretty set on getting one. I play modern punk and alt rock playing thru a les paul. I have a Peavey Classic 30 and a shitty Marshall MG. I have about 2k give or take a couple hundred to spend on a head and cab (new or...

Nice, I can't wait to hear it!

What Cab should I get to compliment the Mark V?

Thats why i was looking into a roadster. They can get pretty cheap if you buy them used. The Mark V holds its value really well tho, so buying a used one isn't really much cheaper than new

What Cab should I get to compliment the Mark V?

Word, Port Cities are so nice, but im trying to keep the budget down. :( I would need to buy the head used, and maybe the cab used depending on how badly i broke the bank on the head  my budget is around 2000 give or take a couple hundred

What Cab should I get to compliment the Mark V?

I just heard my friends Roadster Head thru the Stiletto 4x12 cab and it sounded freakin' godly. Now Im not sure if i even want the mark V since they are soo expensive... Any thoughts?

What Cab should I get to compliment the Mark V?

Yeah But im so excited for the Mark V that when I get it i want a cab ready to go so that i can start playing instantly. I would go friggen bonkers if it was just sitting there for any amount of time

What Cab should I get to compliment the Mark V?

how would a greenback sound? Like what about a marshall cab or something like that? I like midrange punch, so maybe like a 1960a cab would be nice? I've heard good things as well about the Mesa Stiletto cabs. Any thoughts?

What Cab should I get to compliment the Mark V?

So I am about 98% sure that I am going to buy myself a Mark V head, however i am pretty unsure as to what cab i want to choose. Im on the go pretty often, so I like the sound of a 2x12 cab, but I have heard that those don't do justice to the Mark V. So Im not really sure what cab would sound...
