My Roadster Won't Get Clean Enough (Does This Sound Right?)

I have the original Mesa/Boogie 6L6 tubes in there and it was set to 100 watts. I think it was set to Diodes but that doesn't seem to make too much difference. Rectifier tracking seems to compress a little but the clipping is the same either way. Here's another sample I recorded, this time...

My Roadster Won't Get Clean Enough (Does This Sound Right?)

Thanks everybody. I still wish it wouldn't clip quite so easily. But it's workable with the neck pickup. When recording, I can just keep the channel master down. And live I'll just have to live with it. Preamp gain @ 12 noon does seem about right because the power amp will clean up at that...

My Roadster Won't Get Clean Enough (Does This Sound Right?)

You're right. I played with it now and it seems the channel was made for the neck pup. Feel kind of silly for not experimenting with that more before. But my neck pup sounded muddy through my old amp and so I got of out of the habit of using it. So long as I know everything is up to spec, I...

My Roadster Won't Get Clean Enough (Does This Sound Right?)

Here, a PRS Tremonti bridge pickup is being used. It is on the hot side. But my Gretsch 6120 with TV Jones pickups produces the same slight overdrive. I can reduce the clipping by lowering the channel master. But once my ear hears it, it annoys me until it's completely gone. Maybe it's just a...

My Roadster Won't Get Clean Enough (Does This Sound Right?)

I can't get my Roadster to produce a clean sound at a high volume. It's always a little overdriven. Here's a short audio sample so you can hear what I mean. http://www.popcultureaquarium.com/jamestroska/RoadsterClean.wav For testing purposes, the Mode was set to "Clean"; The Gain was set to...

    Roadster needs more gain!!

I don't like the JB pickup for high gain amps. Lacks any kind of midrange crunch. I haven't heard the Steve Special, but based on the description at the Dimarzio site, I imagine it would be about at pushing (or maybe *not* pushing) an amp like the Roadster Recto.

    Roadster needs more gain!!

The Roadster has plenty gain. If you're not getting enough gain, something is wrong somewhere. I would investigate the pickups first. I've had a Tone Zone ages ago and, as I remember it, I don't think it would be a good match for the Roadster. It was very fat-sounding. And, as...

Best Duncan Pick Up For 2 Channel Triple

I have a Tremonti (aka SC250) pickup. It's my favorite by far. It has such good clarity and yet no harshness side effects. I've never liked the Duncan JB, although it's very popular. Well, it worked well for another player I've worked with who was having trouble keeping his Mesa F-50 under...

    Advice Needed. Dual Rectifier/Amp Gizmo/G-System.

Excellent to hear, guys. I will call him. :P

    Advice Needed. Dual Rectifier/Amp Gizmo/G-System.

I wonder if he can make me a longer RRN cable with the buldge on one end. I'd like to keep the Mini Amp Gizmo in the pedalboard and run the RRN cable through a loom with all the other cables. The standard 10ft length and the buldge in the middle would prevent me from doing this.

Dialing Your Amp In: Ear Plugs Or Not?

I have custom-molded hifi ear plugs that I use all the time. My ears were feeling too numb and ringing when I didn't have them so I spent the money and got some. They're pretty "flat" (even frequency response) but they still take some getting used to. I put them in before the show--usually on...

    line6 m13 with roadking2

I do it this way... Guitar > M13 Input M13 Send > Amp Input Amp Send > M13 Return M13 Output to Amp Return This way, you can place any effect in the M13 either before or after the amp's gain stage. For example, you could place a Tube Screamer or wah effect from the M13 before the amp's gain...

    line6 m13 with roadking2

I tested the transparency in the following way and results were very good to my ears... I put the M13 with all its effects bypassed in the Roadster's Effects Loop and, without looking, stomped the Effects Loop in and out via the foot controller several times until I didn't know whether the...

    line6 m13 with roadking2

To follow up... I just scored an M13 from eBay and tried it with my Roadster. It works perfectly. I'm using the 4-cable method so that I can assign various effects to be either pre or post the amp's gain stage. But like most Line6 products, it promises to do everything but can really only do...

    line6 m13 with roadking2

I want to get an M13 to use with my Roadster, which is almost the same amp as the Road King. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work. Ideally, I'd hook it up to my amp using the "4 cable method". That is: Guitar>M13 / M13 Effects Send>Amp / Amp Effects Send>M13 Return / M13 Output>Amp's...

Just got my first Single rectifier head... now what :P

 Reminds me of my last show. My other guitarist has a huge pedal board. When we did sound check, we both played dry and it sounded pretty **** good. But she likes to stomp on extra effects to thicken her solos. Fair enough. Trouble is, she gets addicted to the extra volume boost she...

First Gig With The New Roadster

I fixed my Brit settings. It sounds really good with my guitar when set to: Channel 2: "Brit" @50 watts, Recto Tracking Gain: 3 o'clock Treble: 12 noon Middle: 10 o'clock Bass: a hair below 1:30. Presence: 12 noon The bass is sensitive. It fills up nicely at just a hair below 1:30 and then...

First Gig With The New Roadster

I think my Tweed settings may be very close to that. I'd have to look. I think my gain may be a bit higher as I like it to overdrive when I bang a big chord but stay clean on arpeggios. But I think the rest of tone stack may be set like you describe. I'm going to twiddle the Brit mode a...

First Gig With The New Roadster

Ah, yes. I found a similar product called the "R8" from Midi Solutions that was bigger (1U rack space, I think) but didn't require power. http://www.midisolutions.com/prodr8.htm But the Mini Amp Gizmo looks like a tidier solution as it is smaller and doesn't require 8 separate cables running...

First Gig With The New Roadster

Very, very pleased. I had an unimportant, low-paying gig in a sleazy bar so I figured I'd use it as an opportunity to road test my fairly new Roadster amp. I was playing with a classic / pop rock cover band and set my channels to (1) Tweed ; (2) Brit @ 50 watts ; (3) Vintage @ 50 watts ; (4)...
