    Another killer LSC/LSS Mod idea??

I know that a few people have actually made foot-switched drive selectors. However, the change in tone is fairly drastic and makes it hard to have a setting that suits both having the drive mode on and off. The only way it will really work is with the gain and drive gain settings fairly similar...

Power section problems, need some help

Hi guys ! I have enjoyed this forum thoroughly and learned quite a bit. Anyhow, I know a I have a problem with the lonestars power section. I just picked up a stiletto ace and realized that even in the fluid drive mode, there is no hum with the amp. My lonestar hums like a ***** even without...

    Buzzing when standby engaged ?

Yeah, this is when the amp should be silent. The caps buzz quite a bit. As a side note, I just picked up a stiletto ace last weekend. When I compared them, the stilettos overdrive is smooth and full sounding, regardless of volume. The lonestars flat out sucked, muddy and harsh as hell. So I...

    Buzzing when standby engaged ?

I just have too much fun with this amp. Anyhow the other night, I was playing the lonestar mic'ed up late at night with the volume down when I heard a buzzing coming from the amp. I just never noticed it because I play at more generous volumes most of the time. Anyhow is it normal for the caps...

    LSC no longer sounds warm

+1 on the phase inverter, this tube makes alot of difference in the lonestars; at least it has for me. These not only affect your overall tone, so if the tube is dark both channels will be dark (or vice versa) but they also drive your power section (if they aren't balanced -- as well as if the...

Tubes - Both Preamp and Poweramp

Hey guys, I'm sure it's probably been discussed here a hundred times, so I apologize in advance. Anyhow, I was talking with djw in another forum topic about tubes and I'm curious about what you guys have found as a good set of preamp tubes for the lonestar classic. I'm interested in the power...

My LSS seams to have some fuzz?

Just my two cents, but it's probably a safe bet (if it is infact the electronics) that it's the combination of tubes in your V1-V2-V5 (phase inverter) sockets. I have the lonestar classic, but I had (still have possibly ? lol) this too. The original mesa tubes I had in there were russian tubes...

    Tubes, tubes, power tubes

Haha I think some of it we half imagine or at least our minds exaggerate what we may expect to hear a bit, but I do believe that we are really making changes in the actual sound. I completely agree with getting some volume in, the amp does indeed smooth out with volume. I was reading through...

    Tubes, tubes, power tubes

I have to agree with Joe. I think preamp tubes make a far bigger difference, especially in boogies, because you have to crank them so loud to hear any power tube breakup anyways. I've only gotten my lonestar to break-up on the 50 and 100 settings a handful of times. The 10 watts break-up isn't...

    Tubes, tubes, power tubes

I very well may try Doug's tubes. The vendor myles listed (KCA) is just 12 miles down the road from me (no pun intended). But 400 bucks is 400 bucks. I may give dougstubes a try if others are finding tones they like from him. I also love the clip, that is fantastic. You have really brought...

    Help!!!

It was indeed a bad pot. I believe some solder may have fallen in during the reeder mod and I just didn't notice and it didn't cause a problem until now. Anyhow I removed the pot and blew it clean with some electrical contact cleaner and it viola, it's as good as new.

    Tubes, tubes, power tubes

Truthfully, I ended up putting all the stock tubes back in. I have about a few day honeymoon period when I change my tubes, but I have come to the final terms that after several swaps back and forth, that I really don't like JJ's in lonestar at all. The KT-77's were pretty cool sounded. A...

    Help!!!

I was playing my lonestar tonight and the drive channel started cutting out. So I figured oh, maybe, its a bad power tube, but I switched on the clean channel and its fine. Puzzled, I pulled the instrument cable and the drive channel is fine. But then I go to adjust it, as the sound is now...

So I just retubed my V2 LSC head and...

Mine has done this as well, likewise it was when I first retubed. I don't think cleaning tube sockets is really all that they crack it up to be. I saw the flashes twice, I have since opened the amp to do the reeder mods and have no idea where the flashes came from. My best guess is that people...

    Tubes, tubes, power tubes

Im curious as well, I have a JJ gold pin KT-77 set, the mids and highs sound great, but the bass is totally overwhelming. What are you lonestar users running for both preamp and power sections ? I've gone through several different online forums, but there is really no solid answer and just...

'Flabby/Muddy' Bass on the Lonestar? Want to change it?

Thats pretty interesting boogieman, I was just going back through these forums again after however long its been. I ended up undoing both mods and last night just for the hell of it (after being fed up with the bass again) i remodded it and with the new pickups I had bought for my strat, this...

Lonestar Drive Knob - Reeder mod people might be interested

Ok well Im back. I did a speaker change, while I was there though, the tech a good friend of mine decided to start messing with tubes because he clearly heard it as well. Took out the JJ's Gold pin 12ax7's and it was nearly gone, go figure, I tried so many different tubes I have lying around and...

Lonestar Drive Knob - Reeder mod people might be interested

Sorry its taken so long to reply, my computer crashed and I havent had access to one for a while. I lost the sound clips, but I got the boogie sounding alot better, for one I just started accepting the lonestar as is, which helps. I did get in contact with a guy around here who mods amps quite a...
