Help with Road King II tone!

I think Channels 3 and 4 on the RK 2 have plenty of gain without having use and OD pedal in front of them. So based on the input I've gotten here and elsewhere so far and also on some sound clips on the Dimarzio site and You Tube I'm thinking Air Norton (neck) / D Sonic (bridge). Pretty much...

Help with Road King II tone!

So with a high gain amp like the RK 2 is the consensus that lower output pickups are better than higher output pickups? Again I play a Les Paul (mahogany body) and while not neceesarily playing Drop D Death Metal or even Deam Theater type stuff, I'd like a more modern type distortion as...

Help with Road King II tone!

Thx. I've actually read on the DiMarzio site and a number of forums that the Steve's Special is a good bridge pickup for the Les Paul because it has scooped mids and since the LP is mahogany it already has plenty of mids already as does the Road King 2 so that may help. Petrucci used that with...

Help with Road King II tone!

Yeah guess I'm pretty screwed with the bypasss cause the G System but I am thinking more and more about changing out the burstbuckers. Was looking for more of this type tone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqJjHSIdU_o&feature=related So Air Nortons and Air Zone are now officially on my radar...

Help with Road King II tone!

I guess the question then becomes why is the tone altered when using the FX Loops? Is there some kind of mod which addresses this? I'm fairly certain that the whoosing is a combination of the channel voicing and the burstbuckers. I've listenened a ton to John Pettrucci, Dave Grohl and others...

Help with Road King II tone!

Thx! Unfortunately I've got to keep the loop system active because I use a TC Electronic G System in FX Loop 1 and the Behringer Sonic Exciter in FX Loop 2. I have noticed that with the loop system bypassed the overall volume is like 1,000 times louder than it is when the loops are on though...

Help with Road King II tone!

Thanks all. Yeah so far I'm not liking the Burstbuckers too much with the RK CH 3 and 4 MODERN either. I know there are some great tones possible from this amp cause I've heard them and while I don't have it super cranked I'm not sure how much of the whoosing sound will go away if I turn the...

Help with Road King II tone!

All, Looking for some help with Road King II tone. I play a Les Paul Standard 60's neck with Burstbucker V pickups with Alnico V magnets and primarily use the bridge pickup. The RK goes through a Rectifier 2x12 Cab with Celestion Vintage 30's. So far: All of the channels sounded kind of...

    Roadking II Channel 2 Settings?

Thanks for the input. Yeah I dunno it just seems like the overall frequency range on CH3 and CH4 is much wider. Those channels both have more of that crystal clear, up front, 3 dimensional, breathing "hissss" type of sound - if you can relate to that. There's depth to it. CH2 to me just...

    Roadking II Channel 2 Settings?

Tried your suggestion (thanks again btw) but I dunno with my set up it still seems muffled. I even set CH2 on Clean and using very little gain and placed a BB preamp in front and even after playing around with those EQ's I still couldn't get it to sound as clear as CH3 and CH4. It's probably...

    Roadking II Channel 2 Settings?

Thanks I'll give that a whirl. It's just that so far every mode and EQ combo I've tried on CH2 seems muffled to me compared to CH 3 and CH4. It's either ice pick trebly or muffled, flabby, and muddy. Like I said it seems like someone takes a huge, thick, blanket off the amp when I go from CH2...

    Roadking II Channel 2 Settings?

Any secrets/tips for getting a good tone out of CH2 on the Roadking? I've tried just about every possible setting, even tried to set it to clean and put a BB preamp in front of it. IMO the whole channel in general no matter what option I put it on, what combination of tubes, or what EQ...

NOOB Help! Roadking 2 Master Volume Issue

Thanks for the info! Yeah the Marshall Jubillee I use is a closed back cabinet. I'll give your settings a whirl and see what I come up with. I just bought an XOTIC BB Pre-AMP so worse case if I can't get it out of the amp, I'll hopefully get it out of the BB.

NOOB Help! Roadking 2 Master Volume Issue

I am running a TC Electronic G System out of the FX Loop 1 so it is on in all Channels. Not sure if that has an impact or not. I actually changed CH 1 & CH2 from 2 to 4 6L6's and that seemed to help. One other question..any good settings for CH 2 Brit Mode? I know this is supposed to be...

NOOB Help! Roadking 2 Master Volume Issue

I've got the Master on Ch 3 and Ch4 both at 9 o clock. It's just that to get CH 1 & 2 to match that volume I've got to turn them all the way up and that muddies them up without even adding any gain. I just can't figure out why there's such a dramatic difference.

NOOB Help! Roadking 2 Master Volume Issue

Recently got a RK 2 and it seems that I have to dime the Master Volume on both CH 1 & CH 2 to get them to match the Master Volume levels on CH 3 & CH4. This in turn causes CH 1 & CH 2 to sound like crap and trying to dial in any gain on them at all makes them incredibly muddy. All tubes are...
