I went from a Rectoverb to a red Stripe Mark III. Now I have a Mark IV. couldn't be happier. I love rectos too but for me a Mark is my go to amp.

I experienced something similar with my red stripe. I believe the Fat function is specifically for use with single coil pick ups. I tried with with a strat and it sounded great. With my humbucker guitras it sounded way too bassy.

I have a V30 in my IVa combo. I did not like the EVM that was in there at all. If you run it in Class "A: in Tweed you'll be safe. that 's what I do when I use the combo speaker, but almost 100% of the time I use my IV I run it thru a Recto 2X12 cab.
