If your 1960 cabinet is in fact 8 ohms, then you can connect it to one of the 4 ohm jacks on the combo and plug the combo's speaker into the other 4 ohm jack. This would be a correct match for that amp. If you want to use the cab without the internal speaker, plug it into the 8 ohm jack. If...

How about Earcandy cabs? http://www.earcandycabs.com You can customize them and they cost about the same as the Mesa 2x12. You can get almost any speaker combination you want in them and they are supposedly as full sounding as most 4x12's.

Those readings are for KT-88's running with the bias switch in the EL34 position. Those readings would be WAY to hot for EL34's.

Can anyone tell me how much plate current Mesa spec'd EL34's will draw in a dual rec ? I want to put some EL34's in mine, but don't want to pay twice as much for Mesa tubes. Lately I've been getting EL34's that are way too hot to run in these amps.

Why do you think they are a waste of time with the Rectos?

I'm thinking at this point I need an attenuator because this amp really sounds best when it's cranked, but I'm not sure which would be better, the THD Hotplate or the Weber MASS. Any thoughts?

No, switching from 6L6's to EL34's will not make much of a difference in power, but the EL34's will have less headroom and break up sooner. They will change the tone a little by adding more upper midrange.

I thought the only converter THD made was the Yellowjackets, which allow you to use EL84 tubes in place of 6L6, EL34, and 6V6, etc. If that is the case, you will still have to use the converter to use those tubes in your Rectoverb. However, you can use EL34 tubes directly, just make sure you...

My V30's arrived today. Fixed about 90% of what I didn't like about the tone I was getting. By the way, what will change about the tone of the V30's once they get broken in?

For the moment I've settled on the SED 6L6GC. They seem to smooth the tone out more than the stock Mesa tubes. They are close to Mesa spec, maybe even a tad cooler. I'm thinking about getting some hotter ones and see what that does.
