    Mark I reissue question

What a beautiful amp & cab you have ! I bought one around 7 years ago with the wicker front and just a regular blonde cabinet. It's way overkill for a "bedroom amp" but sure is nice to plug into and look at everyday. I might get an attenuator for it and hear what it sounds like.

    New amps?

I was a full timer for 20 years and now enjoy playing and learning at home. I have a Boogie Mk 1 reissue and it's way over the top for a " bed room amp" , but I love being able to have it near me and looking at it ....ha ... I need an attenuater and maybe somebody can recommend a cheap one...

Looking for cheapest Boogie that is closest to tone of MK1

Was / is there a 60W Mk 1 ? I mean one with a maximum of 60 watts? If so, that would be plenty. No argument from me about the sweetness of power tube distortion. The problem I'd have is the volume necessary to get there.

Looking for cheapest Boogie that is closest to tone of MK1

Thanks Juan, That was some article! The best I've read about his original amp so far. I saw Santana at the end of 1973. I wonder if he was still using the Budokan amp? Budokan was in July of 1973. Whatever I heard him through at the end of 1973 was in it's own league. That set the bar for...

Looking for cheapest Boogie that is closest to tone of MK1

Same here. That's how I learned about Carlos' choice of humbuckers. Bill Lawrence worked for Gibson in the early 70's and had Carlos try out his "Superhumbuckings" during 1972 or 73. Carlos had these installed in his Les Paul and then Bill Lawrence designed the L6-S with the Superhumbuckings...

Looking for cheapest Boogie that is closest to tone of MK1

I agree, completely. What a difference 10 years made between 1973 and 1983, and then to now. I have a lot of respect for the person he was in the early / mid 1970's. I'm just grateful that I was into the Santana band at their peak, from Arbraxas through the Lotus band lineup, Imho. The...

Looking for cheapest Boogie that is closest to tone of MK1

Thanks for your insight. Being I heard Santana live during the 1970's many times, I was just getting started playing in bands and also paid attention to Carlos' sound, trying to notice both his amp and guitar changes. I recognized a difference in his tones, but I didn't know where to draw the...

Looking for cheapest Boogie that is closest to tone of MK1

yeah, I've got my eyes open on the SOB, too. Not having any luck there either, so I'm just checking to see if there's any cheaper alternatives. Besides the gear, what do you think contributed to Carlos' tone back in 1972 through 74, Juan?

Looking for cheapest Boogie that is closest to tone of MK1

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open, I just don't see the deals others seem to spot. I learned that the MIIB is the ceiling before the circuit starts changing, that I didn't know. So is the consensus that if I can get a studio.22, that it can get close to a MK1 tone at low volume with a larger...

Looking for cheapest Boogie that is closest to tone of MK1

Hi, Looking for cheapest Mesa that is closest to tone of MK1. It can be low watts, as this would be for mostly home practice or small gigs (if I start playing out again). Is there is a less expensive option that would have a similar reverb setup as the MK 1? Mostly love the early Santana...
