Found a nice OD/Dist pedal for use with the DCs!

I do agree that a good amp is all you need but why limit yourself. Pedals should'nt be looked at as "help" but rather as "sonic options". My band improvises alot and I like to have plenty of toys around because you just never know where the journey will lead and it's nice to feel prepared no...

    GT Substitubes in DC5

Hey folks Bought myself GT Substitubes adapters that allow me to use el84's. If you are looking to get your amp brighter these do the trick. These really change the character of the amp. One thing I noticed is if you go past 5 on the master there is'nt much of a spike in volume but...

mesa boogie color codes for 6l6 help

Alright, I found something last night that may clear some things up regarding the headroom conversation. When I bought the 440's I also bought 2 preamp tubes as well. One was an ec83 (spare) and the other an ec81 (experiment). After changing the pwr tubes I swapped out my 5751 to what was...

mesa boogie color codes for 6l6 help

Is it possible I am getting better saturation with fresher tubes? The old ones were pretty old but I never had the need to crank it up at gigs where it mostly played. (we miked everything). So I never drove the tubes really hard and they always sounded fine to me.

mesa boogie color codes for 6l6 help

I have been playing with the amp now for about 8-10 hours on the new tubes. The last set that were in were Red 420's. The new ones are Grey 440's. This is what I notice and hear so far. tempeture-wise The amp is running hotter than before. The back plate has never felt this hot, though I am not...

mesa boogie color codes for 6l6 help

Thank you both for the information. The "redplate" warning I had read on this board in the Mark Series index. I searched for a couple of days for more info and have been coming up empty. I'm sure Mesa would have some sort of info on this if there was a chance of damaging your amp. BTW,Edward...

mesa boogie color codes for 6l6 help

Hello I just bought a matched set of mesa 6l6 440str-grey. Are these OK in my DC5? I don't have the original set and I have been everywhere to find out which is the proper color code to get but have found nothing. From what I read there is a voltage difference and the wrong color code...

FORUM NEWBIE W/ JUST AQUIRED DC-3 HEAD

Hello and welcome. I joined the forum not too long ago and one of the 1st things I did was read all of the established threads. They tend to sway to other subtopics and there is a ton of information to be had. I have put off another amp purchase thanks to this. This is a great site and you can...

Pre 1991: Mesa says they made DC-5's from 1994-1999...

Speaking for myself. I'm just curious as to around when the DC's were first introduced, thats all. BTW I checked into the toenail rumor. The longer toesnails give more resonense to his overall tone. You should look into it.

Pre 1991: Mesa says they made DC-5's from 1994-1999...

That is the earliest claim yet. When were the recto's released? I ask this because when I bought my DC5 the owner of the store, (with whom I had known for years) told me "these were Mesa's new line, they just came in today. There was a single Recto head on a 4x12 and the DC5 that I bought. I...

Pre 1991: Mesa says they made DC-5's from 1994-1999...

I read on another thread here that someone else had contacted them and were told they started making DC5 in 1991. I'm sure they have the information, we just need to talk to the right people. (one of the ones that maybe did'nt puff puff pass lol)

can you tell me about this DC-5

Hello Easy, huge tone pallett and loud as hell for 50w. Don't ever stop tweaking, there are tons of tone options. Keep reading the Board to learn about it. I've had my DC5 for 16-17 years and after finding this forum I learned a whole bunch more about my amp. I have delayed another amp...

what to expect after power switch mod DC 5

I am trying to open up the amp a little without killing the neighborhood. I use the 1st channel with the gain all the way up so loss of headroom is ok. If I can get the master to around 3-4, I think I will be where I wanna be and can adjust from there. The master just does'nt seem happy untill...

what to expect after power switch mod DC 5

Hello I am interested in having the 1/2 power switch mod done on my DC5. My question is, besides the difference in volume. What tonal differences can I expect when going from full to 1/2 power. Thank you.

Using the Master as a power brake DC 5

I tried this for 2hrs last night and it worked very well. I play on the rythm channel with the gain on 10 with no pull boost. This added sustain and overall more "low guts" to my tone. My original tone was still very present but with a fullness I did'nt realize I was missing. I like to "thin...

Creating a DC Register for Serial# Dating

Hello all. Now that I have all my purchase/paperwork in hand here is what I found. My serial#DC0009. I am the original owner. I bought it new along with a 2x12 recto vertical cab in May of 92. I was originally there for a Recto head with a 4x12 but the DC5 was next to it and I loved the idea of...
