OD and Distortion pedals with MK V

I've used a TS808, Suhr Koko boost, and Xotic RC booster all to great effect. The TS and mids-side of the Koko give those channels a good, aggressive grind. The RC does something totally different and adds a warm/wooly lead tone with tons of sustain, close to Vai's tone on "For the Love of God"...

Could have bought a car but got this instead

Variac helps alot. I've recently found some really great blues tones using the neck pickup through the edge mode on variac at 45w (tube rectifier). Keep the gain below noon, and then hit it with a tube screamer/clean boost. I had absolutely no use for the edge mode before that.

Could have bought a car but got this instead

This is a real problem. Do you know how many times I've been late getting dinner groceries, or meeting a friend somewhere, because, you know, "Hey, I've still got 10min. I'll just plug in and work on that one little riff until I need to head out...."

    MINI MARK V

Looks like a cool little amp for sure, but I'm not really sure how they can rebrand it a Mk V. Using EL84s is going to give it a completely different sound on all channels, and some of what the Mk V brings to the table in regards to lead tones can only be had at the 90w settings. I think...

    Eventide H9 & Mark 5

No. I have a Morley Bad Horsie 2 that I really like, so I've not really taken time to try the wahs.

    Eventide H9 & Mark 5

I have both a Mk V and the H9, and love them. I run it exclusively in the loop, and it works well for the Pitchfactor stuff you're interested in using. The Mk V loop is also serial, but the only thing I've had to fix is making sure the fx loop level is turned down to about 40% and to make sure...

My band's meeting with a big time Manager But...

I wouldn't do it. Those type of folk are looked down upon, at least in the Nashville area, as shady opportunists, no matter how big of names they say they've managed before. If they like you and end up managing your band, they're set to make money off of you anyway. It's not like she's there...

Sick of the trebly ice-pickyness on my Mark V. Suggestions?

I find that really odd. I do prefer the sound of the 34s over the sometimes fizzy 6L6s, but even then, I can only get "ice picky" highs if I'm cranking my presence knob. The preset EQs sound really good, and Petrucci's settings do as well. It's either operator error, your guitar/pickups, or...

Can someone explain the "Preset Depth" knobs?

I actually use the sliders more on Ch2 than elsewhere, but to the original question though: Basically, you are looking at a variable depth of the standard "V" curve on the sliders. How it sounds to my ears is that the further counter clockwise the knob is turned, the more shallow the V, while...

Now It Makes Sense... (If all else fails, read the manual!)

And unfortunately what that means is you have a lot of people going to fora in order to read up on the amp they're interested in purchasing, and they come across reviews by someone who may sound experienced and knowledgable (or who at least seems thoughtful enough to have taken the time to write...

Had a great experience with my Mk V and BKPs

When I first got my Mk V, I really did not bond with the 6L6 tubes. It didn't matter how I EQd the amp, or if I was using stock or signature Dimarzio pickups, I couldn't seem to be able to dial out the fizz and thinness of the high gain sounds (although the cleans did sound great). So a few...

I dont think the mark v fx loop is fully serial.

I've never had a problem with this, and I've been gigging out hard with this amp since last March using both analog and digital pedals in the loop. I kind of think it might be a bedroom player issue? Even then, I've not noticed anything substantial when working in my studio at lower volumes...

Best way to avoid clipping when using pedals in FX Loop?

Turn your fx loop level down even more than noon. I find mine to be pretty hot, and it will start clipping my Eventide H9 if it's turned up more than 1/3 of the way.

New Member and a new Mark V

Maybe a bad tube. I purchased my Mk V from Sweetwater as well, and even the fan is louder than channel one. Not too much hiss on channels 2/3 either, until I kick in a boost or comp.

PRS 513 + MKV players unite!

Nice playing. I put down classical several years after graduating with a B.Mus. in classical and lute, and recently have though about picking it up again. I love Baroque and Renaissance music, but too hooked on electric now. I have a Mk V head as well, found you can get some great clean tones...

    Hard Bypass

All I know is that it only took me twice to figure out that I shouldn't reach over the top of the head to toggle the pentode/triode switch, not being sure that I was actually flipping the p/t switch.... You'll know it immediately when you screw up. I probably should have learned the first time.

Best Chorus Pedal to use in FX Loop?

I've used a Red Witch Empress, which sounds beautiful, before I downsized my board and kicked off a bunch of analog modulation with the H9. Bit pricey though.

Any suggestions on making the V come ALIVE!

It's toward the bottom of pg.5 in the manual. 90w always diode 45w selectable 10w always tube

Any suggestions on making the V come ALIVE!

Find a good boost (I use a Suhr Koko) to push it into that sweet singing lead or saturated rhythm territory. Use triode on channel 3 and tube rectification for channels 1/2 in 45w settings. And, yeah, it sounds good at a lot of levels, but sounds much more punchy and dynamic in its response...

Which pedals work well with the V? Which don't?

I've been gigging with my Mk V for about four months now, and between that and my H9 I've been able to clear off half my old pedalboard. Such a sick amp. Here's what I've settled on for the past eight gigs or so: FOA: Xotic SP comp Xotic EP booster Suhr Koko boost (was using the green rhino...
