So tonight, while at band practice, guess which amp blew...

Ugh, this is why I used a Peavey LA 400 for 10 years of playing clubs. Even after the drummer knocked it off the top of another amp AND off the stage and it landed on it's head while still on, it kept on going!! :D :D :D Now I take a tube amp and a Peavey Backstage 50 with a Scorpion in it. If...

    Blue Angel - new owner

My Blue Angel arrived today. Took a short spin tonight, live in a condo so can't really give it a beating at home  I think I did pretty well, $810 delivered for a 1-12 combo that looks near mint including the cover, footswitch, schematics, manual and all Mesa tubes. Has the correct fuse in...

    Rect'o' 50 Combo

Another dark preamp tube that is easy to find is the Sovtek 7025/12ax7WA. The WA designation is important, other designations may be much brighter. I used have used them to tame a too bright speaker/amp rig more than once. They are always available on ebay, don't pay too much for one. Common and...

What is a Vintage Black Shadow VS-12 speaker?

Re-labeled Eminence speaker. You can do better, lots of great speakers to choose from today.

    I have a DC3. Any need for a Maverick?

Yes, I think you can refer to the mesa site and see what an option like that would run. Is it figured maple or plain? And the speaker? Mine came with a Black Shadow/Celestion V90 which is pretty good, better than the V30s that come in the 2-12. Not so fizzy sounding. I know, lots of details but...

    I have a DC3. Any need for a Maverick?

They seem to be undervalued and may stay that way unless a rock star uses one. Which model? They made a long and short head, a short head 1-12 combo, a long head 2-12 combo and a long head 4-10 combo. Knowing Mesa, would not be surprised to see a 2-10 someday. Easy to tell the long head and the...

    I have a DC3. Any need for a Maverick?

It's hard to describe, other Mav owners say the same thing. I actually like some of the gain tones I can dial in on the clean channel better for leads. There is plenty of gain, the tone controls do their job but it is different than any other Mesa lead channel. My favorite setting for it so far...

    I have a DC3. Any need for a Maverick?

Purty with that Warmoth neck on there! Stainless steel frets? If it isn't your favorite go ahead and swap, sounds like from your description the Maverick is right up your alley. One of the best clean channels ever on a Mesa. Distortion channel is a bit strange but I get some great tones out of it.

    I have a DC3. Any need for a Maverick?

It is a totally different amp! Play through it, listen to the tones and then decide. Looks can be deceiving. You may still prefer the DC3 but try the Mav out and give it a chance. I love mine, would not trade it for a DC3 ever. And I like the DC3! Go to the mesa website -www.mesaboogie.com and...

"new" tremoverb, partial refund, now alive again!

Did you check your local auto parts or hardware stores? Sorry to hear about your amp, hope it all turns OK in the end. What were the seller's feedback numbers like?

WTB: Blue Angel head or 1x12

Yes, I shot him a line to see what the Buy It Now would be - he said $1500. I missed the end of the auction or might have wound up with it. Glad I went for a 1-12, I have some nice speakers waiting for such. Should be here Tuesday! Keep your eye on that 2-10, it may still be a deal. :D :D

    6V6s..

Thanks, yettoblaster. May just be a mighty wind from the speaker is giving the tubes a shake, rattle and roll? :D :D :D I love combo amps for being all in one but they do have this one disadvantage.

    Bedroom Practice Setups?

I have the Tonelab SE and used to have the same Valvetronix the OP has. To get anything interesting you must hurt the tube. On the Valvetronix, turn the little volume knob on the back all the way down. Turn the Volume and Master on the amp all the way up. Bring the little knob back up a bit and...

    6V6s..

Just got a Blue Angel (has not arrived yet) so I will be watching here too. Any body try the Mesa tubes? I have some old USA made 6V6 tubes but none that I know came from a pair. Great for my little Frenzel Champ Plus single ended amp but a total crap shoot in a push-pull setup. I do have some...

    One tube over heating? help!

Always on a tube amp that still lights up.........check your tubes first!! Get a known good substitute tube for any tube in question and replace the tube. Never swap out all of them at once, you won't know which one was bad. Take your time and swap out one tube at a time. If nothing changes...

WTB: Blue Angel head or 1x12

I just missed a 1-12 in great shape, went BIN for $860 delivered to the lower 48. Bought a 1-12 today, great shape also, plus cover and reverb switch for $810 delivered. Should be here Tues/Weds. :D :D :D :D This one is actually a 2-10 not a 2-12. Cool amp, ends in a couple of days. I...

    Best EL-84 amp

I loved my 22 but had to have it modded to be able to get a lead tone that was louder than the clean tone. It's a nice amp but does not compare to the Mav or Blue Angel, Dyna Watt is a very "in your face" sound and the tube rectified stuff sort of "caresses" every note. Which is why I did not...

    Best EL-84 amp

Then here is something for you to try on the lead channel. Turn the master way up, the tone controls all the way down and then just crack open the gain knob a wee bit. Now start playing with your tone knobs - depends on the guitar and pickup preference. I get a gorgeous grindy sort of "clean but...
