Mark V owners who also own a Marshall JVM...

I own a vintage / modified Super Lead, a JVM, and the Mark V. I think Marshall is the way to go for most rock. I have gigged with both and prefer the JVM overall. The Mark V does a good job pulling off the Marshall sound but not enough to get rid of the Marshall amps. I've been repairing...

Anyone dropped an EVM 12L into a widebody ported cab?

I am running a widebody closed back / front ported with the EVM300L (Zak Wylde version) and it screams. Go for it.

    Mark V EQ

One reason you have to push the Mark V sliders further is the speaker. If you are playing through a new combo than the speaker is also new. A new speaker won't have bass or treble like the same speaker that has been broken in from 50-60 hours of playing.

    Mark V Tube Thread

I have tried a few different options. I was running a quad of Siemans/RFT EL34's for awhile. Channel two crunch was the brown sound for sure. The amp sounded just like my Marshall Super Lead. The cleans were not nearly as punchy so I tried some old RCA 6L6 Blackplates that I had sitting. I...

    Favorite Speakers For Mark V

I am running a C90 combo with EVM front ported cab. That sounds better (to me) than the C90 that was in the cabinet when I got it. I did also try C90 and V30 combo but still the winner is C90 / EVM12L.

    2 EVM12L's in recto 2x12....Good idea?

I bought the widebody front ported cabinet and put an EVM12L 300 watter in there. It sounds killer. So much better than the C90 which has been my favorite speaker for the MV since I got it. Now I am considering changing the combo to another EVM. Would love to hear what you think of the...

    MK V Lateral Change -->NAD

looks like you lost a speaker? I like the first setup better. One open back and one ported / closed back. Great mix of sound, IMO. Plus, your colors were nice. I think Cocoa Bronco is awesome but I got the black because it was available. I like this amp so much I could have a head and...

    Do you like the reverb?

I was just noticing the other day that I had to turn my reverb knobs down. I am no reverb expert but maybe the springs have to break in or loosen, stretch or something? I know an old Fender will make a horrible noise if you move it because the springs are rattling around inside the tank. My...

    EVH sounds from MKV?

This is what I recommend also. I use tube rectifier as well for this but that won't make much difference. The key is channel two / crunch. The first thing you do with a new amp from Mesa or anyone is break in the speakers and get some good tubes. Don't forget, you can't just dime out the...

Good 1x12 Cab for Mark V

This cabinet is in stock at Sweetwater. I highly recommend asking for LUKE. He will give you some discount or shipping help. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ThieleCabW112/ While it does come stock with a C90, I have purchased a EVM12L and will be auditioning this over the weekend...

What brand of EL34's have you tried in the Mark V?

I had Seimans / RFT EL34's and they really sound good. I favored them over stock for about 3 months and than I got a matched quad of RCA 6L6 blackplates. I like them the best so far.

Mark V in for service - likely an output tube failure....

A friend of mine (maybe) inserted his tube the wrong way and got some loud hum. Apparently, when he was swapping tubes the tube "key" broke off inside the socket and he didn't notice. When he went to put the tube back in, it went right in. The only problem was, the tube was inserted...

    Mark V Cab Question

Thank You. The guitars are the original (1988') Eric Clapton Signatures. They came stock with Lace. I removed the bridge Lace on both guitars in favor of a SD Hotrail. I have it setup with a coil tap which makes for a very versatile (thank god for spell checking) setup. One of the guitars...

    Mark V Cab Question

Scary? : ) --- You spying on me? I moved it away from the other amps for the photo. The "steps" and "railing" are just props. One thing I haven't been able to do is crank it to gig volume level. I haven't been in a band for about one month.

Spare rectifier tube for mark V

I am using all RCA tubes. 6L6 blackplates and 5U4GB RCA Rectefier tube. Very nice.

    Matching MarkV Cabinet

It sounds very "big". Open backs always sound "airy" to me. This has a more focused sound where the bass is more punchy. Together with the combo speaker this is a great setup. I A/B'd them one at a time for an hour, trying to identify the differences. Sometimes it is hard to say, in words...

    Mark V Cab Question

The Thiele arrived today. It sounds great. I haven't broken the speaker in yet. I usually use a variac and break in the speaker using the Ted Weber method. This speaker had enough bottom, right out of the box.
