    yes, that's intonation problems.

Mesa Boogie Triple Rec, Metal and Heavy Metal tones

You can also put an EQ in front of your amp, with spectacular results. "EQ in the loop" is pretty popular on this board, but you can do it either way. In front of the amp, you're adjusting for the guitar. Boost the cutting/chunking frequencies (800 hz), cut the mud (400, 1.6k), and also use it...

Getting a Dual Rectifier to Cut

Without the fine tuning of a parametric EQ, you'll never get the precise cut that you and most professional guitarists want. 800 hz is about where the chunk, cut, and pick attack lie. Boost that and you'll have no problem being heard. You need a parametric EQ though because there's mud above and...

    Dual Rectifier *Boom*

If your cab has an opening in the back you can mic the front of the speaker and the back of the speaker, then adjust the mix of the two mics. The back and front have different sounds, so you can get lots of cool combinations.

Its come down to Stiletto Trident Vs. Triple Rec Vs. Mark IV

Keep in mind that you don't need all your gain from your amp. Most professional bands use boosts of some type, whether between guitar and amp, preamp and poweramp, or both. Also, meticulous EQing makes a huge difference in making the tone heavy and brutal - its not all about how it sounds when...

Mesa users - would you disown me?

If I ran a POD XT Live, X3, or Boss GT-8 through my Roadster and 2x12 cab? I've been set on selling the Mesa rig, but I really like the tweed setting - but would it be blasphemous to use such a nice setup simply for projecting digital modelling?

    F-30 big problem

On my Roadster when I arced a tube/blew a fuse I got a loud distorted fart and then it wouldn't turn on. Maybe that's what happened with yours. Does anything smell burnt? Also check your power cable to see if its loose where it hooks into the amp - couldn't hurt.

    Mesa for metal

Mesa's aren't for metal, they're for big band and country! And the classic AM radio tone. You should look at your local department store for an amp - the cheaper the better!

    Roadster Head vs. Combo

Nobody really needs a 4x12 - extra speakers only add a few decibels (2-3 I think?). Just mic it!

    Will EQ help this issue....

An EQ in the loop could fix the problem too. Some bass frequencies = thump, while others = mud.

    F30 With Extension Cabinet

Check this out: http://www.soundenhancer.com/ Something like this could fill out your sound nicely. I bet it would be pretty easy to build one too - it's not a complicated design.

    Roadster- too much all around

Yup, something must be wrong with me, not liking the one Mesa amp that I've had experience with. I'll ring the doc. Thanks again to everyone who gave real suggestions! :)

    Roadster- too much all around

Glad to know your opinion. Lucky for me I'm a tone-oriented guy, not a bells/whistles/who can make the most superb amp guy. One of the reasons why I don't want the Roadster anymore is because my 200 dollar Spider III actually sounds better to my ears. I'll turn plastic knobs and play digital...
