On my Roadster when I arced a tube/blew a fuse I got a loud distorted fart and then it wouldn't turn on. Maybe that's what happened with yours. Does anything smell burnt? Also check your power cable to see if its loose where it hooks into the amp - couldn't hurt.

Mesa's aren't for metal, they're for big band and country! And the classic AM radio tone. You should look at your local department store for an amp - the cheaper the better! :roll:

Nobody really needs a 4x12 - extra speakers only add a few decibels (2-3 I think?). Just mic it!

An EQ in the loop could fix the problem too. Some bass frequencies = thump, while others = mud.
