    Blue Angel Sweetness & Questions

I've had 4 different Blue Angel's in the past (because I really liked them!) and all could be somewhat noisy/hissy. The key to taming the noise is reducing the gain via pre-amp tube selection. Try a 5751 or 12AY7 in V1 and then a tube like a JJ 803s in V2 as a start. The reverb tube (can't...

    FS/FT: EarCandy Ethan 1x10 cab

Up for grabs is an EarCandy 1x10 Ethan closed-back ported cab loaded with an Eminence Rajin Cajun. Webpage: http://www.earcandycabs.com/products.php?req=read&product_id=52 I bought originally it to go with a Emery Superbaby but was my last head and it's gone so I no longer use the cab. It has...

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

Look at my earlier post. I love the Mullards also but they don't work well in this amp in either v4 or v5. All the AT7's I've tried don't cut it in this amp's reverb. Noisy. I feel you need the AX7 in v5 too for headroom, unless your playing strictly in a really low volume situation.

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

V1 - input (most critical) gain stage & Ch. 2 "drive" stage - this tube will have the greatest effect on the overall tone and feel of the amp. It's also the first place to look if you have weird tube noises, microphonics etc. I use a JJ 803s here but they will get noisy after a while and have...

    Delay pedals on an Express

Put it in the effects loop. The Echo Park is a killer delay for the $. Very flexible, stereo, tap tempo, great tone options (tape, digital or analog) and dead quiet. You've got to use a power supply because it devours batteries. The only drawback is if you ever drop it on your foot you'll...

    Maverick or LSS???

OK I had a Maverick, although it was quite a while back, and now have a Lonestar Special - both 1x12's. Maverick +'s - great clean tones and lot's of headroom on the clean channel, parallel effects loop, used prices Maverick -'s - fizzy OD channel, very difficult to dial in for lower gain...

    Lonestar Reverb Tube Limitations

Yep, it was designed to be a 12AX7. In many, if not most cases, I've been able to sub a 12AT7 in to lower the overall intensity of the verb and less "sproing". In the last Mesa I owned, a Blue Angel, I did that sub and it worked very well for me. Doesn't seem to work in the Lonestar Special...

    Lonestar Reverb Tube Limitations

I'm finding that I cannot use a 12AT7 in the Reverb Driver/Return (V3) on my Lonestar Special. Tubes that work well in the same application in other amps, a Mullard CV4024 and an EH 12AT7, are rattling and noisy in the Lonestar. Anyone else finding the same? Is the circuit just not right for...

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

I just scored a Lonestar Special 1x12 and, of course, I'm tube tweaking. I automatically go for putting a 12AT7 in the reverb slot (V4 on the LSS) on most amps but it doesn't seem to work well in the LSS. Using either a Mullard CV4024/12AT7 or an EH 12AT7 there is noticeable noise and tube...

I'd check the rectifer first. I 've run across some rattling JJ rectifiers in the past. Vince

    The Blue Angel Appreciation Thread

who gave his all for this beauty! Over the years i've owned 4 BA's, selling a 4X10 and 3 1x12's but I always loved the sound of the amp. When this one came up, I just couldn't resist. It's stuffed with an EVM 12L and mostly NOS tubes and is the best one yet. Only problem is now my amp is...
